Thoughts on spray painting the chrome trim around the windows to black?

I would rough it up a bit with fine grit sandpaper, use primer coat, then SEM Trim Black

You might want to try wrapping with vinyl. I did the silver trim on my E82 in satin black vinyl and it turned out great. The black trim on my E91 was starting to show wear so I refreshed it by wrapping. If it doesn't look good, easy to just pull it off.

If you do paint it, be sure to remove it from the car first. If you do it on the car you'll have paint on the rest of the car as well, pretty much guaranteed. Overspray carries a really long ways.

I'm pretty sure that the suggestion was for you to do it.

Yes if you're not comfortable trying a DIY wrap, I definitely would not try a DIY paint.

Yep, this is an easy DIY. Here is what I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

It's enough to easily do two cars, maybe three if you don't waste a lot learning how to do it.

Here are some shots of my E82:
