so i got my car, and hate the gong. i looked at the panels under the steering column, and the screws securing one i think you'd need to take off to get to the connectors has the star shaped head. so i can't take off the panel to look. i'll head by the shop later this week to see what the head mechanic says...

I'd love a fix for this as well. I turned the volume of the gong as far down as it will go, and it is still WAY too loud for my tastes. Frankly, I like to turn my car on, let the engine run a few seconds, then put my seatbelt on and put it into gear. With the gong, I'm ALWAYS putting my seatbelt on first, which sucks. On my brother's 06' 330i Sedan, the chime doesn't go off (in my recollection) unless I'm sitting in the passenger seat for 30seconds to a minute without putting my seatbelt on. I'm pretty sure it works the same for his side.
We need a fix, ASAP! |

What I wouldn't give to have this problem. If I'm lucky, I won't have first-hand experience until sometime in August!!!
The flip side...when I get my 135, I can spend less time trying to solve problems and more time driving. |

i turned the volume of the gong to -5, and it's still hella loud...
so i went into the service center this afternoon, and mentioned how the head mechanic told me how to unplug the connector in the X5, and wanted to see if it was the same for the 1. he called the mechanic, and apparently. because it's federally mandated to alert you when the seatbelt isn't buckled, there's no way to bypass and turn off all chimes/gongs. it's routed through the whole system, and there's no way to turn it off. it was a pleasure when i had the X5 and it was totally quiet, and now the 1 chimes at me all the time, but what can we do... i'm hoping the more time the service guys spend with the car the more they'll learn and hopefully find a workaround to this issue... Worse case scenario would be to disconnect the speaker/buzzer, no? Just have to find out where it is, and how to get to it, whch I'm suspecting won't be that easy. Later.

True....but is it really just a small speaker / gong module....or is it software coded to play through the stereo speakers?
Have not researched this one enough yet...but I agree the gong is the most annoying thing about this car!!! |

Exactly! I don't need big brother telling me to fasten my belt each time, it's bloody annoying.
I'd love to turn the thing off.

+ 1 !!!!!! However...when cleaning the car, you can just jam the stereo by having the FOB out and just punching the Stereo "on" button once, it will play for about 10 or 15 minutes then shut off, just hit again to go right back to what you were listening too. The seatbelt GONG appears to not be defeatable at this point.

I will have to check under the steering column to see if i can find these plugs. JTdrivin can you take pics of your X5 of the plug you disconeccted? Just trying to get a reference to what I am looking for.

I read the thread and I know you explained where it is but a picture is always better than words. If you read my post I was only looking for better reference with the pic. If you don't have a pic or don’t' want to take one that’s fine.
Thanks anyway.
