E82 vs E90/92 differences

I have heard from a guy who races alot on the Nürburgring that the E90/92 is superior to the e82 because og longer wheelbase and better rear end. I know cars with longer wheelbases are more stable, and can be better at high speed tracks like the ring, but whats up with the rear end? When i check part numbers, the rear suspension is the same on both cars. I then dont get why he claims they mounted E90 rear end on a E82 track car to make it perform?

Im now not thinking about the m3 bits, couse those would also be something to change on an e90/92 non M aswell..

The E92 chassis has a wider track (5" wider if I recall) as well as wheelbase. Big advantage for the E92 chassis. The wider track makes the biggest difference. We have a widebody on our 135i so problem fixed =D.

You are correct in that the longer wheelbase is more stable at higher speeds. The ring is as high speed as it gets as far as tracks go so the E92 would be more stable. However, a shorter wheelbase can rotate better at lower speeds. Most tracks are not high speed tracks so overall, I'd rather take the shorter wheelbase. I'll also take the lower weight, even if it's a mere 200lbs.

Yes that was what I was saying aswell.
But he claimed that there was something else than just the wheelbase/with since they had changed the rear end on a E82 racecar to E92. But i didnt hear any more from him when i showed him that the part numbers where identical back there... (non M)
But i was seriusly curius about this since the person is a wery capable driver so i thougt he knew what he was talking about..

What particular part were you cross referencing in the rear suspension between the E82 & E92?

I compared all rear suspension parts on the 335 vs 135 in ETK.

Couldnt find any (other than the parts from the M3) part that would make any difference back there.

In Swedish but you see the part numbers:

Hmmm... will I never cross referenced the rear suspension like you did so I can't really comment what would be different. My guess is that it wasn't a factory E92 suspension piece they swapped into the E82. I think I know of what it might be but I'm not going to speculate.

E82 shares majority of their suspension components with the E90/92. All the control arms are identicle.

Converting your E82 control arm links to the M3 ones will help the car out a lot!
