135i Video Build Thread

Hey all,

I've just purchased a 2008 135i N54 and are really excited to see what I can do with the platform.

Having came from an AWD single turbo background (Ralliart, Golf 6R, Golf 7R) jumping into a RWD twin is a big difference!

Working in marketing, I've decided to create some videos as a bit of a passion project.

I've just posted the first one (excuse the clickbaity style title - it helps with views) and will continue to post as regularly as I can.

Plans are to go FBO at first, then maybe look towards more of a 1M conversion (subject to nothing going terribly wrong and sucking up all my $$$)

Video can be found here:

Oh thanks for that - I’ll make sure to edit. I thought that was the case but when I googled to double check it said 300nm somewhere haha.

I’m still learning everything but keen to hopefully provide an entertaining project!

Video #2 is now live!

I've listed the top 5 things i love about my 135i with a bit of a showcase edit for anyone that is interested in E82 N54s.

This one is a quicker video - but we'll be getting into mods soon hopefully!

Back at it with video #3

This video is about the things I hate on the 135i - a couple "good to know" points for those thinking about buying one.

Picked up my editing game a little too - let me know your thoughts!

Finally, I have jumped into some mods

Keeping things simple - i've started with visual mods - i've upgraded my steering wheel and it's absolutely amazing.

I've recorded a Install DIY video to go along with it - check it out!

Upgraded angel eyes are now complete! I used the new LUX H8 189 LED Bulbs. They're not cheap, but are super high-quality!

It really makes a difference to the overall look and feel to the car.

Full install DIY can be found here: https://youtu.be/VpZ-Pm-1lyg

Some sections of the install are a little tricky - but definitely doable for the home mechanic!

New vids - 135i

A couple of new videos in the past month or so:

1. Cheap visual mods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9HpXZZjU40

This one covers: M2 style kidney grilles, 1M style mirror caps & LED side indicators all for a super cheap price

2. Blackline tail light upgrade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLUO9B8t9M4

This is pretty self explanatory - the very popular "blackline" tail lights. These are the biggest game changer i've made so far for the appearance of my car. Very 2 series-esque.

3. VRSF Charge pipe & TIAL BOV install: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iW9tuFaSsA

Finally, getting into the performance mods. These made a big difference, as it felt like there was a boost leak or similar previously. The car did not hold boost that well, more so on MHD stage 2 levels. Swapping this out has made the car much more enjoyable to drive.

VRSF 7.5" Stepped Race FMIC install next! Stay tuned

Water damaged PDC Replacement. DIY Video - E82 135i

Whilst I am waiting for parts, I thought it was time to fix some of the smaller problems on my car.

The reverse parking sensors have never worked and would be very handy to have working!

The PDC Module was water damaged (and quite badly at that!), so I had to replace it entirely.

It's a relatively easy fix - but I have provided a DIY for anyone interested.

Check out the DIY video tutorial link here:
Reverse Sensor - Parking Distance Control Unit (PDC) Replacement on E82 135i N54

Cheap Visual Mods

This time around, i've gone for a quick, easy and mega-cheap upgrade. I've added:
- Blacked out third-brake light
- Blacked out 135i Badge
- LED reverse light bulbs

All this cost me $50!

Check out the DIY video tutorial link here:

CSF Radiator Install Video

My latest mod was in response to all my coolant hoses deciding to break. My radiator also broke, so I replaced it with a CSF Aluminium Radiator.

So far, so good!

How to Install Apple Carplay on BMW E82 135i

Adding Apple Carplay and an aftermarket head unit with a screen is a GAMECHANGER for these old E82s.

I highly recommend it!

Upon watching the YT video I was inspired to follow along and purchase an android apple carplay head unit. However, after installation I have no audio coming from anything. I've contacted the seller but I was wondering what CANBUS box did yours come with? And what all wires did you end up utilizing.

did you move the fibre optic cables (one of them is green from memory) from the stock harness to the new one?

I’ve not installed one yet, but from all the reading i’ve been doing that seems to be a commonly overlooked step that results in no audio.

The kit I received did not have an adapter or connection for the fiber optic cable into the head unit. My guess is I got scammed out or order is missing an adapter. I’ve contacted the seller but I’m yet to hear back. It’s just a waiting game for now.

Thanks for the response!
