The interior of the audi is pretty small- are you tall? Its hard for me to get in and out of my mom's a3 (6'3") The interior room of the e82 is much better.

I'm 6' 2", on the heavier side, and have done 3 hour drives (between stops) regularly as well as done a 12 hour each way road trip only stopping at the 6 hour mark for gas, restroom and lunch. Once you get the seats adjusted for you I think it does a decent road trip car. Especially with the leg extension in use.

Does the S3 have the timing belt issue that is located on the back of the engine that a lot of the Audi's did?

135i has sketchier but possibly more fun handling. Both cars can be modded out like crazy to your liking. Style and interior and all that crap are your preference.

If you can drive hard then you'll want to know that the LSD in the 135i is probably a geared type and those kind of blow, much like the drivetrain in that S3. If you can't drive hard, then the 135i will do sweet donuts with or without an actual mechanical LSD. So it's a lose/win depending on how hard you drive.

Provide the specs and prices plus performance for each. I bet the BMW is the better deal. Also down the road the BMW drives better, will depreciate less, and has far better friends. Just sayn.

Ok So this is all ballpark stuff but here goes.

2013 135i DCT with 30K miles for about $22k +5k for S2 and LSD mods.

2016 S3 Prestige DSG with 32K miles for $25k +5k for S2 and supporting mods and DSG flash.

Here's a comparison
https://www.carsales.com.au/editoria...parison-42492/

Although they seem more interested in straight line performance than handling. Having ridden is an A3 the BMW feels better on road to me. More refined, solid & better handling.

With $5k in mods the bmw will likely make more power from the 6 cyl. vs Audi 4 cyl. Do you need the added power though? The A3 is one of the few cars I'd consider to replace my 135i. The Quattro is nice and levels the playing field between the two. It says a lot that the stock BMW competes with the S3 head to head.

Suggest you go drive them both and see which one you like better.

As far as handling mods go H&R Sport springs on the stock shocks and a wavetrac diff is about as far as i wanna take it. I've had a car with low coils and didn't care much for it these days.

Ya i'm def gonna go find some examples to test drive and see how i fit in them

Low is not the only option on the 1er & not necessarily better. The shocks are weak link.

All depends on your goals. Is it for show or for track days. Straight line pulls or driving dynamics. Fancy for friends or improved handling for the driver experience.

Honesty, the driving comfort (different from ride) was what sold me on the 1er. I was in a similar situation with the w204 C63 and somewhat the s3 on my radar. If you're an Audi fan, I was an MB fan with honestly a decent amount of brand loyalty. But when I sat in the msport seats, felt the steering weight, and dialled in the pedal and wheel distance, none of the other cars matched the driving position comfort. I'm 6'1 and the 13 hr drive back after buying it was completely comfortable. The a/s3 pedal box and shoulder area feel a bit cramped in comparison. I sit at a desk all day and wanted seats that worked with my back, and the 1er delivered.

For climates with an actual winter/snow, the s3 would be pretty sweet. Otherwise I don't really see the appeal for the 4 cylinder.

Suspension wise my goals are for a slightly lower stance and Sporty ride capable of mountain roads but with no intent of track days.

If the oem shocks are a weak point then a cup kit will probly do the trick. I'm assuming for my purpose that stiffer anti-role bars aren't needed?

What about engine and driveline bushings? Worth upgrading?

Id say that the tuning community for vw/audi is a little more robust that bmw. With a '13 n55 youll have to either do jb4 or find someone to bench flash for mhd, whereas with the s3 just find your closest apr/giac/revo etc tuner

Dinan Stage 2 for N55 is 355HP and 401lb-ft torque.

The numbers you're showing are for Stage 3.

Yes, you are correct sir.

Then again since Dinan's stage 3 is similar to what others call stage 2 perhaps Dinan needs correcting? Dinan stage 2 works on a stock vehicle, no mods required. Their stage 3 requirements are: Free Flow Exhaust, High Capacity Oil Cooler and High Performance Intercooler.

Exhaust is not necessary even though they say it's required.

I think the large capacity oil cooler may not be needed as long as you have the stock 135i oil cooler. Recommended but not required. YMMV of course since I'm just going by what's on the forum.

The 135i is very good for long road trips - I do a drive between KC and Bowling Green, KY regularly - tend to stop only when I need to refuel (which is once on that trip) if it's just me in the car. Car is happy at 80 mph all day long and the seats are GREAT - it's a great GT car. But, and this is the key to on road comfort, ditch the run flat tires.

Wonder what the max rear torque distribution is on the S3?
