There is one out around Columbia, MD I think. Haven't been out yet, but another friend on here went out there a couple weeks ago and mentioned trying to set something up.

Question

Matador, Dinan's backstop warranty ends at 4 yr/50K mi with BMW's standard warranty, so BMW extended warranty to 6 yr/100,000 mi is not an option. There may be 3rd party warranties that you could investigate.

Apologies for thread hijack, but are you sure that extended warranties are a good deal? I have read a lot of articles that contend they are not.

Extended warranties: A high-priced gamble
Extended Warranties - How they work
Extended car warranties - don't be a pushover
Why you don't need an extended warranty (not car related)

Just a few of the key points mentioned in the articles above are:

* the "list price" for the warranty likely includes commission for the seller - the price may be/should be negotiable.
* understand who provides the policy - is it really BMW, or a 3rd party.
* understand what is covered and what is not - normal wear and tear, full replacement cost (or subtracting normal wear and tear), labor, what parts are included/excluded, etc.
* how reliable is the car and what usually breaks.

I never considered BMW's extended warranty, but I do value BMW's standard warranty - that's exactly why I chose Dinan over other tunes.

I believe, don't quote me on this, that you can purchase Dinan software after your warranty expires and they cover you for an additional 2 years. Not very cheap though for 2 years of warranty, but always a thought.

Ben, interesting point. I think Dinan's 2 yr/unlimited mileage warranty (read at link below) refers to the functioning of the specific Dinan part, and not to the larger component operation, like engine or suspension.

So with Dinan Stage 2, I assume this means that the software inside the ECU box is covered, but any other engine damage - turbos, injectors, etc. - would not be covered. Or for an exhaust, the Dinan exhaust itself is covered, but not the cat, turbos, etc. For suspension, the Dinan parts, but not any other non-Dinan parts.

To find out for sure, one would need to call Dinan!

I go out to Capitol Raceway in Crofton,MD to take 1/4 mile passes pretty frequently. It's not necessarily as involved as a road course but I enjoy it for a spirited drive

Dinan BMW Warranty
Yeah, I remember someone a while back mentioning it, and wasn't sure if it was true or not. The only way to find out would be to ask I suppose. I also was trying to figure out if I could somehow convince them to give me stage 3 for the $500 over my stage 2 if I had the oil cooler, exhaust and IC. Not sure if it would work, but worth a try, haha.
