Rear tyres wearing?
After ~25,000km, I've noticed the tread on my rear tyres is noticeably lower than on the front. I'm running the M-Sport 245/35/R18 rear-215/40/R18 front combo. Wear across the profile is even both front and back, and I have been running 40psi all round (checked and adjusted weekly). I had expected proportionately more wear on the fronts due to 55:45% weight distribution, the narrow front tyres, and the effects of braking, not the other way around.
I don't do smoking launches (far from it), although I do like taking corners with minimum braking, and I love the great turn in. Has anyone else experienced similar tyre wear? Is this symptomatic of not having a LSD? I had been thinking of replacing with non-RFT's, but with the fronts not having worn much at all, I think I'm going to have to replace the rears with the Bridgestones. |

You can run different setups - I've got F1's front and change between a dodgy rear set (dry) and Firestones for wet. Works well and haven't looked back. I did get a nail puncture in my front right F1 a few weeks ago which I had plugged. |

My rears are near the tire wear mark and the fronts are like new lol.

In the meantime, I enjoy the improved grip, reduced noise and better ride of my S1 Evo's. |

It's a rear wheel drive - of course the rear will wear out first

Well, not necessarily. My previous drive was a Mazda RX-8. Also rear wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, 50kg lighter, but with a limited slip differential. Uni-directional tyres are the same size all the way around on the RX-8. After 3 sets of tyres on that car, my impression was that the fronts wore slightly quicker than the rears. I put that down to the extra work that the front brakes have to do.

An RX8 has no torque. The 135i does. It is normal for the rear tires to last only 10K to 28K miles. It is just the price we pay to play w/RWD high HP. |

Tread wear is perfectly even across the tyres - no scalloping, no wear on the edges. Is it possible that the rears are out of alignment in this instance? I had a full 4 wheel alignment at the last service, but in between we had the rains in Brisbane, and the road surface has declined from just merely crap to goat tracks.
