Rock Chips

So I just had a brand new bumper put on few weeks ago. Went on a 5hr highway drive today and already found a bunch of rock chips. These rock chips actually chipped of the paint showing the grey primer behind it. On my last bumper, rock chips would dent the paint but would not chip it off revealing the primer. What gives? Did the shop just use shitty paint? Maybe they didn't do enough layers? Is there a way I can preserve the life of my new bumper?

You have a couple of options:

- Bring it by the shop and ask their opinion
- Touch up the paint chips and stop following vehicles so closely on the highway
- Install a clear bra after the paint has fully cured

Chances are the paint did not fully cure so it was still soft. Paint my dry within a day's time but won't really cure till after 30 days (speaking of non-factory paint jobs).

I'm a huge fan of clear bra's, I put one on my 135is within a day or two of receiving her, and that was after a full detail + opticoat. If you decide to put on a clear bra, make sure you wait 6 weeks till after the last touch-up.

Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback guys. I had no idea it would take that long to fully cure. I guess I'll just have to try to stay away from long hwy drives for a bit.

Parking your car under hot sun may help a little =)
