Power steering hose keeps getting loose
Hi All,
My power steering hose keep loosening up and leaking fluid everywhere. It's the 22mm banjo bolt, i've tightened it up but after a drive it completely loosens up. Anyone know what could be causing this? Also, i've looked at some of the diys for changing the fluid to see how others approached the bolt but does anyone know what angle works best to get a ratchet on it? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, |

Loosening up doesn't make sense. I'd suggest:
1) Check your torque values, make sure the spec is correct and that you are meeting it 2) Cracks in what it is bolting onto 3) presence or lack of washers where needed |

Replace the washers on the banjo bolt (should be 2 per bolt) and torque to proper spec in order to get the correct squish on the washers. That's what holds the bolt in place.
The washers are not reusable so your repeated tightening keeps failing. ****USE A TORQUE WRENCH****

Do you which angle is best to approach it with a torque wrench? From where i'm trying under the car i'm not able to get a torque wrench on it.
Thanks for all the responses and help |

Is this loose bolt on the pump or on the rack?
If it's the rack then you can remove the two bolts that hold it in place, slide it forward and down, and get all the access you need. If it's on the pump side I'm not familiar with the access there. You can actually feel when the washers give and squish (like on the oil pan plug). That would be your last resort, to tighten by hand.
