Halogen Headlight Replacing Broken Halogen: Coding Required?

Hi everyone,

First time posting, but been reading here often for a couple years since I got my 2013 128i. I managed to back into my own headlight with my truck, crushing it pretty good. I got a full replacement headlight from Valeo to swap in. Will I need to have the new light coded? It seems like everything I find when I search is about recoding from halogen to xenon, so not sure. I talked to the local BMW shop guy (not the dealership) and he said yes because "it's probably the same as a 135" which I believe is not the case as it doesn't have the xenons to begin with. He was looking to charge me $600 to put the light in and code it. That may be fair as well, maybe someone has thoughts on that?

I believe no coding & install yourself. I think you need find a new BMW "guy".

Definitely no coding because you aren't changing any electrical components. You are just installing them in a new housing. As far as the CANbus is concerned, nothing changed.

Biggest issue you will face is just the installation process. I recently changed out my Halogens to Depo's with black housings and clear corners on my 128i.

First time ever removing a BMW bumper and I had it off in about 30 minutes.
