Best Size for Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 135i

Buying my first set of MPSS tires and wanted to know what the consensus is on proper sizing. Stock is 215 40 18 and 245 35 18. I'm considering 225/40 and 255/35.

For spirited every day driving (no tracking) what would be the best size? I'd like it to handle as best as possible on normal roads and highways. Also have BMW Performance Suspension so I'm lowered just a tad.

Also would consider 225/40 and 245/35. Thoughts on that?

Other mod to take into account is that I have PPK, so a bit more power going to the rear wheels.

225/40 + 245/35 is a good balance for the street. Less understeer than stock and no fitment issues.

Any chance that would cause "oversteer" or is it a very minor change

I just put 225/40 and 255/35 tires on my car with stock size wheels and the BMW Performance suspension. Not Michelins but Pirellis. Nicely fills the wheel well. Hardly any gap between the fender and the tire and no rubbing at all. Perfect fit. Glad I did it!

No chance of oversteer with this combo. Unless of course you are talking throttle induced. In that case the throttle induced oversteer is no better or worse than stock.

Does it feel floaty or squishy at all by upsizing. The tires are slightly taller at that size.

I don't have anything to add, but once you do buy and get them installed, let us know what you think.

Ok, I just ordered the 225/40/18 fronts and 245/35/18 rears... decided to go with those because they were actually $50 cheaper than the 255s and it will ensure I don't have rubbing issues.

Total price from Tirerack was $830 shipped and there is a $70 mail in rebate :-) offer expires today which is why I was in a rush to order.

Will post pics and let you guys know how they are

This is how 225/40 and 255/35 look with the BMW Performance suspension. No rubbing.

You'll be happy with this combo. Should in theory have slightly less understeer than stock. If you want to go back to stock like understeer with better rear traction then you can go 225 front and 255 rear with no rubbing concerns on stock wheels. I have had 235/40 in front in the past and currently have 245/35 in front. The 245/35 fitment in front requires camber and offset work to make it fit. I don't know if the 235/40 fitment requires work. I'm running -1.5 camber and never tried the fitment on a stock alignment or wheels/offsets.

Wow that looks incredible. Are those wheels 18 or 19s?

There are a couple large speed bumps I have to go over daily and a pretty nasty seem/dip in the highway on my daily drive so that's where I'm concerned about running with a 255 rear

Looks great. How many miles do the rears usually last? Maybe I'll up to 255s once the rears are worn out. Hoping the fronts last me through two sets of rears

Pm me if you have questions

Interesting. It's so odd that the reviews are so mixed on rubbing or not with PSS 255 rears on stock wheels

Same here. It went away after a few thousand miles but it was annoying. I'll probably do 245 next time even though I love the 255s.
