^ you may have to spread out further than 4 local dealers. Fuel is expensive, but basically your buying over the phone so you should (in theory) just need to make one trip to that dealer. The delivery day. I went a little over 500 miles to get the ZHP I wanted...

Similar Experience
What I did in late May was only a variant of this.
There are six BMW dealers in the metro DC area (Arlington, Fairfax, Sterling, Passport, Tischer, and VOB). I sent emails to all six with my desired configuration (135 convertible, SGM, gray leather, premium, Step, comfort access, heated seats, IPod/USB) and asked each to send me his best price. I told them I did not have time to negotiate with each dealer, I was not going to shop one dealer's quote to another dealer, and I would make a decision on price only. (I work one block from a BMW dealer's service facility.) Two did what I asked them to do. Two gave me a "MSRP less $400 or $500" kind of number. Two didn't respond except for their automatic response. The best price was $500 over invoice so I made an appointment. When I was on the way to that dealer, the other responsive dealer called me to say he'd match the price. I said, "No thanks." Moments later, a man who said he was the sales manager said he'd sell me the car at invoice, which he identified as "his cost." I still said, "No, thanks." Maybe I could have saved $500 by cancelling my appointment and going to the second dealer. One never knows. I'm happy with the deal I got and had the easiest sit-down with the sales rep that I've ever had in my life. I even added the sport package because I was afraid I'd be sorry if I didn't. I ordered the car on June 2nd and BMW OC says it is at my BMW Center. That has yet to be verified -- I think it is too soon. |

Maybe the already had the exact car you wanted on order, I kind of doubt it but who knows. I ordered my car on June 7th and it is still waiting on a boat in Bremerhaven.

^ the `09 3ers look sooo good on the internet, I've yet to see one in person though (if your talking about a sedan, coupes are the same as `08's). And as for the 328i, well, I had one last week as my ZHP was in the shop since a friend knocked a window off track (oops!). I was quite impressed with the loaner 328i auto, as I have been with all of my 328i/325i loaners, the 328i's show to have 230hp and it felt just as fast as my 235hp e46 330i ZHP stick...
Tough call, if the enthusiast in you wants blistering performance, take the 1er, if you need a little more room, go for the 3er. I'd pick the 1er just for the turbo fun...

128i Coupe Invoice
Base Price $26,865.00 Xenon Headlights $730.00 Ipod and USB adapter $365.00 Montego Metallic paint $500.00 Black Boston Leather $1,320.00 Sport Package $1,185.00 Destination & Handling $825.00 Total $31,790.00 My Offer = $32,790.00** plus taxes and license Well guys I sent this to a dealership and they accepted...a little quick I may add. Did I offer too much over invoice? He said the total out of door cost is $36,135.88 according to him. This is my FIRST time buying a car let alone on my own so I just want to make sure I'm not being jipped. I will be financing. Let me know what you guys think and what I should do next, should I try to get other dealerships to try to beat this? |

This is showing my stupidity, but I lived in a state with no sales tax until just recently, so I have an excuse...I thought sales tax was paid at the time of registration, not purchase..so why would they be factoring that into the price of the vehicle?

^ it depends on the state. Also on the person, you can pay your taxes up front if you would like too, or finance them into the note/lease payment...
