Funny Read
Check out this one. Interesting how some folks equate the subaru Legacy with the 135i. I find it interesting how a person who drives a Subaru can call the BMW ugly. To each his own I guess.

Not many. I think the Legacy is a perfectly respectable car. The Spec B looks quite entertaining, they're super safe, and they have a certain Q ship factor that the 1-Series lacks.
That said, I can't see anyone cross-shopping the two cars. They are targeting different audiences. |

I'm true blue BMW but we certainly looked at the Subaru Legacy as an alternative- and I've heard other bimmer guys (especially in the winter) bring up the Suby. The consumer metrics on this fall back position must be strange. |

Now I realized I don't really need as much room inside because we have another car for family stuff, so it opened up my options a bit. |

legacy is a (arguably the last) good looking subaru. price and performance are in the same ball park, as long as you just say no to frilly BMW options.

drove a Legacy GT right after driving an auto 335i. I am a subaru fan, but there is really no comparison at all. Granted, there is a hell of a price difference. But the legacy wasn't even in the same ball park.....

If there truly were no comparison, there wouldn't be loads of articles making the comparison. |

Funnily enough I was very close to buying the Liberty GT Spec B tuned by STI. But when I did the math and worked out how much I'd be playing each month I felt I wasn't really getting enough of a wow factor for my money. Cross shopped next to Audi to size up a 2.0 TT - with a 6-8 month wait list for my spec I figured I'd wait for more details on the 135i. So very glad I did, the more I read and see the more I want. I could never go back to Subaru now but that being said there are a huge number of people that put the Liberty and the 3 Series in the same category. |

Serious question: What's a "Q ship factor"? |

Ah - nautical term - a merchant ship, armed to the teeth, and yet made up to look quite innocent. The British did them in WW I (a good book to read on the British Q-ships is, "My Mystery Ships", by Campbell - the British Admiralty used the 'Q', i.e., Q-5, designation for all decoy merchant ships in 1916) and the Germans were known to use them to good advantage in WW II.
My favorite Q-ship is a 2003 Audi S6 - ha a real sleeper!! |
