Avoiding BMW due to tune

I have a bit over 10k miles on my car and I'm thinking about totally avoiding BMW with respect to maintenance because of my tune and mods. I dont want the hassle of pulling everything out just to get an oil change. Any downfalls or potential consequences to this? Has anyone heard that not using BMW for maintenance possibly caused a warranty to be voided?

I am going to set my JB3 using the stock map and use my BT scanner to remove all warranty codes, and then take my car in for a scheduled service with all mods on. My next scheduled visit is within the next 4 weeks and I will let you know.

I wouldn't worry too much if ur there for maintance...warranty work is another story.
If ur in Nj I can likely help.

Performing your own oil change is "avoiding BMW"?

You can do your own service by yourself and not affect the warranty. Just keep receipts for all the maintenance parts and keep good documentation of what you've done.

Though considering this is a once a year thing, I'd just take off the tune/intake/BOV.

How do you reset the oil change monitor if you don't take it to a dealership?

JB3 stock map, clear codes, done.

For an oil change they will not be pulling your engine bay apart to look in the ECU area, that is time consuming and they have no reason to. BMW dealerships in my area are extremely busy and overbooked, they are also all about making money not wasting time looking for aftermarket piggy back hardware when all they are being paid for is changing the oil.

Even if its by accident, I think you'll be screwed if they find out you have a tune. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but BMW is pretty meticulous about keeping records for CPO purposes, etc. Therefore anything that is found at any dealership will get stored in their database. If you get called out at one dealership with a tune, rest asured that when the next one downloads your key they'll have the same info.

Yep, and all manufactures are now really going after tunes....if there is a way for them to save money on warranty work, they will, and have to do it. I agree, an oil change will not make them search, but for any drivability problem, they will get you. They can now find anything that was on there.

There is a way to do it manually from inside the car but I forget. Do a search as I remember reading it in this forum.

Another alternative is to get the BT (Bavarian Technic) tool which can reset the oil change and can also reset or adjust any of the CBS (condition based service) items.

I went to the dealer with my BMS DCI and JB3 on for a HPFP claim they didn't care. I did take the BMS tuning gauge out though....

Whoot!
Apparently the dealer and the mechanics love my car.
They asked about how long I've had my mods and made no mention of any problems with having mods or even catless downpipes.

Glad everything worked out, but keep in mind your mechanic doesn't make the decision on warranty issues.
