Well, it was a combination of it still feeling solid, everything working correctly and that it was (at the time) a really good deal. I have no regrets.

Out of necessity, the only surprise things I've HAD to replace were shocks, front control arms (I upgraded to M ones at the same time), outer tie rods, and the oil filter housing gasket (upgraded oil cooler at the same time).

I couldn't be happier with the car, and I'm glad I picked it up. I think German cars do fine a good bit after that 100k mile mark, or once all the little teething issues have been worked out.

2008 135i E88 w/60k. I bought it used with 48K (from 1st owner) and have owned 6 years. I've only averaged 2K per year since as I only drive it on sunny weekends :-)
