Driving through car wash regularly may affect the paint of the inside of the wheels. You can some car wash products and wash it in your garage comfortably.

Not all drive thru car washes are touch. Some are touch free which is what I use all the time. The high pressure spray does a great job of getting rid of bugs and bird poop. I then towel dry the car to get rid of any water spots the auto dryer couldn't clear. What are the cons to using a touch free high pressure wash?

Edit: after some further research I now understand why some do not like the touch free high pressure washes. I will have to give some thought on whether or not I'll continue using those. Minnesota winters are not kind to us car enthusiasts. I might just have to pick up a beater jeep in October.

I use the self serve ones with the high pressure wand. I only spray the soap, wax, and spot-free rinse and use a wax as you dry spray wax. Works well, we have good, clean city water. May be different in different areas depending on what water they use. I have been to tons and I luckily have a great one next door, my fun night out is going to the car wash.

At least find a good touch free wash. Takes the same 5 minutes of no effort, but without the damn swirls.
