Recaro CS

Hi,

Just wondering if the Renault R.S. version of the CS can be adapted to fit a 135i?

Couple of sets on gumtree starting at $2,000.

Apart from removing the Renault writing is it bases and seat sensor or far more involved?

Thanks

In short, not without effort and significant cost compared with new CS. (refer schmick post below)

Yes it's doable but you'll need a spare BMW drivers and passenger seat for the yellow harness, passenger occupancy sensor and seat belt buckles (assuming you don't want to tear apart your existing seats). Then you would need to buy the Recaro Base frames and sliders to suit E90/82.

You'll find recaro Australia won't sell these to you so you'll be forced to get them from overseas, which is not cheap but the parts are there.

I'd say these would need $1k-$1.5k on top to have them in your car.

Contact a guy on Facebook called Recaro_max. He has everything, but he's in Poland.

I have the Sportster CS in my 135i and my wife has a Clio RS with the Recaros. The Renault Recaro seats are exactly the same as normal Sportster CS. Any parts you'd need to make them fit would be needed to fit normal Sportster CS seats. The only way you'll avoid that is by paying ~$10k for OEM 'Motorsport' seats (which look great but mount too high).

The Renault base can be removed and the seat mounted using any genuine or aftermarket Recaro slider and either fabricated or Macht Schnell/ VAC floor adapters. The airbag wiring is the same. I used the seat side plugs from my OEM seats.
'Non Renault' Sportster CS don't come with an occupancy sensor so you'd either need to add one or bypass it anyway (mine is coded out- if the crash is bad enough to trigger the drivers airbag the cost of a new dash cover and airbag is no deal breaker for me...)
Your stock seatbelt receivers can be fitted to the Recaros with Macht Schnell/VAC brackets or one can be fabricated easily.

If they are Clio seats you'll need to flip the backrest angle adjuster since the Clio has them inboard of the seats. This is fiddly but not complicated (I had to do one of mine as I had 2 RH seats)

They don't mount too high. There is a High and Low setting. The seats come new in the high setting and adjusting this to the low setting leaves them in a height identicle to the stock seats.

How do these hold up at the track? are they close to a proper fixed back seat?

Fantastic. Don't move around in them at all. Once you have them you couldn't go back to stock
