This may strike some as odd coming from a G8X M3 owner, but I find the G87 front end pretty unattractive. (I admit I didn't like the G80 front end at all at first, but came around eventually.)

The rear is worse IMO.
That's just the direction the brand went with their whole lineup, can't change it unfortunately. These new generation cars seem to photograph poorly and require dark colors to look OK. |

For the record I like the looks of both the F and G series M240i's, the gen 1 M2, and the new M2. The front end of the new M2 seems looks very squarish and will take some time to grow on me.
I have a build in for one and opted for the black paint, black wheels, manual gearbox. Maybe by the time I get one people will be more used to their new look.

On the front end, I wonder what the tradeoff was between marketing's design requirements and engineering's airflow requirements. With 453 HP and a semi-street/track build target, I assume the airflow took precedence but wonder what influence design had in, say, the bold square shape of the outside air inlets.
BTW, if you look at the shape of the top of those square outside front air inlets, you'll notice they're generally shaped to do the work of a traditional canard or dive plane. That's pretty cool stuff!

What a counter-intuitive and ugly user interface on those screens! Also, do they really supply no layout choice for each mode (one per mode only)? The whole possible point of that instrument cluster screen (from the user - the one who pays - point of view) could be choosing (or even uploading own design?) the best layout. Which is analog instruments with an additional display, in fact. A cheap solution in an expensive car. And there goes the supplementary touchscreen, too. Just touch yourselves (twice!) and give me the buttons and the knobs.
There's an electric parking brake even with the manual transmission. Does it have a drift mode? Regarding transmission, I don't really follow the housewives' automatic , but I heard others were using 10 speed ones already: ain't it old to keep it 8? It looks like modern ///M cars are for show-off rather than driving (or have they always been?). What's utterly pathetic is the exhaust sound modes. It is like playing a tune with your butt hole! And, particularly funny, in "sport plus" the exhaust sounds just exhausted, mooing "I can't take/give anymore!!!". This car is such a money sucker! What for? The manual gearbox? A treasure, indeed! Apart from that there's just too much of everything. Regarding the design of the front end mentioned, the squares do look more solid and serious than the "semi-square" triangles. The regular 2 series' face looks like a smashed smile of the M2. |
