I'm moving this to the forced induction forum, and you might want to search for "Dinan" in that forums, there's a bunch of threads already.

there are authorized Dinan installers all over the country. go to their website. on the bottom right there is a "locate your dealer" box. put in your zipcode and you're set.

some dinan installers are bmw centers ... others are 3rd party performance shops. if the bmw center you ordered your car from is an authorized dinan installer than i don't see any reason why you couldn't ask them to do the reflash prior to taking delivery.

look for the other big Dinan thread around here to better understand what you are getting (and the rumors of an update in May).
cheers!

My bmw / dinan dealer just told me the engine computer has to be removed from 135i's and shipped to dinan for the upgrade. I believe he said they charge an additional $80 for overnight shipping back and forth.

Check out the latest Roundel for a great article on the Dinan 335Ci and their reccomendations and performance results.. The Dinan treatment is compared to the AA mods which are similar but have no warranty..Dinan is pricey but you gets what you pays for. Something like $22,000 for the whole enchilada..Oyvay

not necessary. they did mine in 45 minutes.

that was true for some bmws but from 1st hand experience not the 135i.

They just connect a cable to the diagnostic port and upload the program don't they?

That sounds right. I wasn't watching them that closely so I can't say for sure. It probably only took 35 or 40 minutes and then the installer had to take it for a spin to "make sure no CELs came on." uh huh.

Yes.

Have driven the AA 335i and have the Dinan tune in my 335i E93 (this month's Roundel has great articles on each). Comparable 'blast' to drive - no other way to describe it. Both turn the N54 into a real beast, but with zero penalty in drivability, no engine codes thrown, and - for me in E93 - slightly better mileage.

I like the Dinan technology (thoughtfully rejigger the firmware) over the AA approach (thoughtfully fool the ECU) and find the Dinan warrantee worth the extra cash (YMMV). Was equally impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the AA team (Miami-based) and the Dinan shop I bought from (Chris Chapas, C2 Design, Tampa): these are both serious BMW guys.

I find my E93 with Dinan better/faster than any roads I encounter here in Central Florida - the car is traffic-limited 100% of the time. Having also driven the new M3 (which is wonderful), had I a choice between the Dinan-tuned E9X and an M3, it would be a tough one, even if money not a factor. Were I tracking: M3; real-world: E9X/Dinan and pocket the dollars.

There's a good article about it in the new Roundel.

Why not go for the Split Second or Giac?

So if I put in my zip, and my dealer shows up on that list, does that mean they can do the Dinan flashes? I've noticed that only some BMW dealers show up with a Dinan rep listed when you click on details for the dealer. If there is no Dinan rep listed with the dealer, does this mean they don't do the Dinan flashes? Thanks, a bit confused about this!

If the BMW store is listed as a Dinan dealer --- it is a Dinan dealer.

That's the beauty of Dinan, they're fully covered by BMW so your warranty would be in good shape.

This has been a topic of much conversation, but the Dinan chip comes with a Dinan warranty that mirrors your BMW warranty. It is not supported by BMW.

You're correct... I typed it, submitted it, walked away and then remembered that was wrong.

Thanks for clearing that up! :w00t:

It is supported by bmw. If something breaks you take it to the bmw dealer and the problem gets fixed. The only difference is whether bmw or dinan pays for it. In my mind, if I don't pay for the repair and it gets fixed by the dealer without me paying for anything.. it is supported. I also get a dealer loaner car while dinan an bmw decide which of them will pay for the repair.

What are main advantages between the Dinan tune and the AA tune?

:

Since the AA is a piggy back, the similarities behind other piggys are generally the same, with maybe a few differences in what signals the piggys interfere with.

I posted a summary of what I think are the major diffs between piggys and a Dinan reflash here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=40

Also, the current issue of Roundel has an article about a Dinan S2 335i and provides a LOT of good information that I think you're looking for.
