The ground loop jumper had no perceivable effect on noise suppression or sound quality. |

Competed in my first MECA event last weekend. I hadn't ever intended to compete with the car, but was looking for some feedback about how to improve the soundstage and some aspects of overall system response. A local judge recommended I enter to insure he had enough time to properly evaluate the system, rather than just being able to give it a quick listen before or after the event. Thanks William!
I entered the Sound Quality League (SQL), "Street class". Although the car is really more of a "Stock" entry, the DSP alone was enough to bump me. Oh well. And since I was there anyway, I entered the Install and Show-and-Shine competitions as well. For my first time out, things went really well! The car scored an 84/100 in the install class (enough for a #9 national ranking had I been a MECA member), a 69.5/100 for sound quality, and a perfect 100/100 for the car show. With regards to sound quality, the judge recommended improved soundstage height (needs to be lower), more pronounced midrange (my midbass is intentionally dominate to overcome road noise and exhaust drone), and some phasing improvements (I think the Jehnerts need better time correction settings to better complement my revised crossover settings). With these corrections, and some minor misc tweaks, the car should be pretty well sorted. All this without a sub! At this point I'd like to take opportunity to thank Jacob (HDME) and Ken (MusicarNW) for their continued assistance and support to get the car to where it is now. Without boring you all with the details, I thought I might have damaged some equipment during a marathon tuning session. Both guys went out of there way to help with the debugging process and were fully prepared to replace components under warranty if necessary. Thankfully it appears the parts are all fine, and that my system just seems to have an annoying sensitivity to the EQ settings around 200 Hz. Last edited by E30 Racer; 06-25-2012 at 09:16 PM.. |

You had me sold on this kit yesterday; placed the order over my lunch break, pretty much the same setup less the amp (plan to reuse my PDX 5). Cant wait for the box to hit my porch...
