Canadian 135i (is)?

I'm looking at a used 2013 135i Convertible, in Canada. I am having a really hard time figuring out the exact specs, namely, I read a post that said that the 135is in Canada was just the 135i with the M Performance Package. Does that mean that a 2013 135i with the M Performance Package in Canada would have the higher 320hp? Does it even matter if I decide to put in a JB4?

The vehicle has the 18" (style 313?) wheels, and the "M" badge on the door sill, "M" streering wheel and "M" shifter (manual).

Also, this particular vehicle doesn't have the navigation system or large color LCD.

I'd love to see a spec sheet or even a brochure for Canada, as I know that the US/Canadian models can have different features and options.

Does it have the BMWPerformance Exhaust? Also, does it have contrast stitching on the interior? It was an option to not have it but most do.

The most important parts of the -is model for me would be the support mods for the upgraded power. Namely the more powerful radiator fan, and the auxiliary radiator on the driver's side. The performance exhaust also sounds amazing so there's that too.

If it had the PPK 2 kit installed (which includes the support mods I mentioned, plus the software upgrade) there is likely a sticker under the hood with modified spark plug change interval instructions, and maybe a ppk sticker. This isn't always the case though as you/whoever originally purchased the car might have told them not to install the stickers.

Other signs of it being an -is would be the textured aluminum finish on the trim, and the 135is badge by the glovebox, as well as the contrast blue stitching that b1aze mentioned.

It does have the textured aluminum finish, no contrast stitching though. I also found the VIN in this list:
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...&postcount=375

As an "M-Sport".

How was that list generated?

Don't fret about the little details. You really should be concerned about maintenance records. Do you have proof of at LEAST 6 oil changes? Are you planning on getting a PPI at a good respected BMW indy garage?

Regarding how the car is equipped, MightyMouseTech has one of these Canadian models, except his is not a vert. Maybe he'll see this and chime in.

Its being sold at a used car dealer, so no records. It has 68,000 kms and looks in good shape, but yeah, I would definitely take it to get a PPI somewhere.

It was the 135i "M Sport Edition" that was built the same as the "is". Was only offered for the last half of 2013. Came with the 313's, aluminium waffle trim inside, black mirrors, and the black leather with blue stitching was an option, and also came with blue trimmed floor mats. The brochure also listed as them coming with black line tail lights, but they forgot to add them at the factory. I pointed it out, and the dealer swapped to the black lines no questions asked.

The "is" came with the Power Kit and Performance Exhaust, but they did not leave Germany like that, it was not added till the cars arrived at port in the US. So when they were built in Germany, they were built the same.

Look for option code P7MFA EDITION SPORT Sports Edition in the option list if you run the VIN in a BMW VIN decoder. That will tell you it is a real "M Sport Edition"

This is great information, thank you! Yes the car is pretty much the exact configuration as the one in the picture (other than being manual). BMW "Professional" radio, no Nav.

I'm going to take it for a drive today. Pricing seems "fair" (25k CAD), but not stunning. It looks like it's had at least 3 owners, one was for a few months and registered "commercially" (likely a dealership?) and been in Quebec for a short stint. I doubt there are any service records, there is only 1 key.

I also saw a 2015 M235i, but it has been sitting on their lot for a long time and I'm sort of feeling like the 135 is a bit more of an enthusiast car. The manual M235i's seem to sit for a very long time.

I was disappointed that it doesn't have Bluetooth audio and the exhaust was too quiet for my liking. Tires are new Toyo Proxes. Not sure on the price. Dealer claims to be "firm". They originally listed it for $29,999 last fall and dropped the price a few times.

I think it likely has the same audio setup as my 2012 128i, where the phone works handsfree via BlueTooth, and if you connect an iPhone via the USB port you can stream music from your phone (iTunes, Spotify), use Google Maps or Waze for navigation. It's actually works pretty well (with an iPhone at least - don't know whether it works on Android).

It looks nice but the price seems very high to me. I'm no expert- others on here have more experience with 135i pricing.

That's right about the Bluetooth. The 135 didn't have BT music. Phone for calls (on iPhone at least). You can play by plugging into the USB or Y cable depending on the year & options on the car. 2013 should be just USB, no Y cable needed.

You can add BT music capability by using a Bluetooth dongle. The cheap eBay/amazon ones typically sound terrible. But if you get one with the right codec (A2DP) the sound processing is great.

I use one of these Viseo/Bovee but the version looks to be sold out. WMA2000.

The Bluetooth issue isn't a dealbreaker for me. I have a few dongles as I used to have an '06 Z4M. I guess I'm on the fence since the 135i is a fairly dated design and this particular one is on the high price side due to the year/mileage. I'm not sure about the value proposition here.

Any comments on the pricing? It's hard to compare since these M-Sport models are very rare.

FWIW Cargurus thinks it overpriced by about $5000: https://ca.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-...ting=239849694. It looks like the dealer has had it for almost a year.

I probably overpaid for my car, but it had almost everything I was looking for and it was up for sale at the same BMW dealer who had sold it new.

AutoTrader thinks it is $700 overpriced. Those car sites aren't very reliable for their pricing estimates on rather specialty cars. I don't think $25k is super overpriced but I feel like I can get a 2015+ M235i with 20-30kms less for about $30-$32k and that may be a better value. I wanted to fall in love with this one, but something was holding me back.

A BMW enthusiast might be willing to pay the extra for a limited edition, there are only 39 M Sport Editions in Canada i believe.

Go to Service Ontario with VIN and ask for a UVIP; it should be $25. It'll tell you all previous owners (Ontario) and what is a fair retail price. Maybe car came from another province. What exact brand and model are the tires; that'll tell you a lot. Most of us hate run flats. Rear tires for these cars (245/35 R18) are extremely expensive. Costco wants $360 each for Michelin PSS. I'm "sort of" in the used car business and I know that dealers know a lot more about a car than they are willing to tell you. Dealer is UCDA which is good.

The UVIP from Service Ontario pricing isn't accurate for vehicles like this. My Z4M was listed at $16k when I sold it for $28k. The data they use does not really take into account model variants.

This is likely the most expensive 135i year/configuration that you can get at this point, and I'm not sure if that will translate in the long run regarding resale.

My hiccup is that if I'm spending $25k on a sporty car, why not spend another $5k, to get something which is a whole new generation, especially in terms of tech. That will go to resale in the end.

Agree the suggested UVIP pricing not likely accurate for our cars. BUT, it's access to previous ownership that I find very valuable b/c you then can get some/all of the cars history. Especially important for the turbo cars.

Agree this pricing will not translate to better resale in future unless you find that one enthusiast that wants the car. Most people looking at convertibles want an auto trans.

Agree the 2015 M235 likely being the better purchase. BUT, again I would want to know maintenance history. I've driven 2 M2's and like them (just never could afford one)

I know 5 1 series owners here; 4 of us winter store our cars so I'm thinking all 4 of us plan on keeping our cars for a very long time.

Good Luck

I have the carfax, and it shows a total of 4 owners. First was 1/2014 (ON), then 7/2016 (ON), then 3/2018 (QC) and 8/2018 (QC). It is possible that the 3rd owner was a dealership or something since it shows "Registered as Commercial Vehicle".

If this was a 1 owner, private seller, I may have pulled the trigger already. Not knowing any of the prior service history and paying a premium is a crapshoot.
