SL01: Beautiful car. And thanks for the night shots -- it's good to see this color in different kinds of light.

Any comments on the longevity of non-metallic colors such as CR, versus metallic colors? My current car has 17-year old AW paint, and it's certainly in great shape. But I don't want a 1 in AW.

I had an M3 in imola red for nearly three years, and I managed to keep the flat paint in very good shape with few swirl marks, but it took lots of work -- and I practically put Griot's kids through college in the process. :iono:

If I do end up ordering the 1, it's down to CR or TiAg at this point.

Wow there are a LOT of 1addicts in the Orlando area. We should start some sort of meet. I won't have my 1er in the states until the end of the summer though.

I was able to spend some quality time with the 135i this weekend, including a nice drive on a twisty road. Handling, braking, acceleration.... one word comes to mind... effortless. This car is amazing.

I gassed up for the first time. It got 22.8 mpg, assuming the tank was completely full when I got it. Given how much time it spent idling at the dealership, that's not bad.

Attached are some more photos - these are late afternoon, not quite sunset photos. It's now tinted to 35% and has been treated to my special detailing routine: clay bar + 3M swirl mark remover (sigh... dealerships...) + Mother's pure carnauba + Zaino CS. It sounds like a lot, but probably was a total of about 3 hours intermittently this morning.

Very photogenic with the red and the tint. And the WAX. Do you need an machined buffer to apply zaino? Also what pads do you use?

You guys are taking delivery so fast I can't keep up anymore.

The only question remains, what color OZ Ultraleggera wheels? Silver, Black, Gray, or Race Gold?

I used a random orbit polisher to apply the 3M polish/glaze and the Mother's wax. I don't use the orbital to remove either, they wipe off easily with a microfiber towel. The machine isn't necessary, but it makes these kinds of products go on a lot faster and come off a whole lot easier. I use Lake Country pads from proper auto care, in this case both pads were finishing pads with no cutting action (white for the polish, red for the wax).

The Zaino CS is the easy part - takes about 10 minutes. You just wipe on and let it dry. There's nothing to buff off, and you don't use a machine to apply it. Just spray it on an applicator pad, wipe it on and go take a shower while it dries.

The downside to Zaino (and the reason for all the other steps), it'll highlight any swirl marks or spider webbing in the paint. Unfortunately, this car came with plenty so I had to break out the polisher.

I'm surprised you orbitted this soon. I've always been told to wait a couple of months to ensure the paint has totally hardened.

I was going to ask the same question. Most auto manufacturers recommend one month until you can polish or wax the paint.

Has anyone asked BMW what they recommend yet?

Thanks

We've got some great curvy country roads out here, west of Windermere. Lake Hancock/Siedel Road is a nice drive.

This site talks about how auto paint is cured - polishing shouldn't be a problem:
http://www.mobileworks.com/auto-paint-finishes.html

My last 4 cars (dating back to '01) have all gotten a wax job within a week of ownership, with no ill effects. Only one of those came off a dealer lot, the rest were custom orders.

besides, SL01's car was sitting at the VPC with mine for at least two weeks before getting on the truck, and at least 2 weeks sitting either waiting for a boat, or sitting on a boat. Easily a month from paint to delivery.

SL01, maybe we can meet up some time and you can show me these roads. I would also like to see the CR in person not while its being washed. thats right, i saw them putting the swirl marks in :-P
