Clutch Silp

Hi guys!

Experienced major clutch slip while being a bit of a hooligan with car yesterday. The car has 21000 kms and is completely stock with PSS tyres! Apart from a couple of short track sessions (with no particular strain on the clutch) and very rare occasions when I'm a bit more aggressive with it, the car is babied and the clutch is not abused.

I've read some threads where this topic was discussed but those cars were tuned. On some of those threads something was said about a faulty crankshaft seal but can't find any info on that.

Would like you're thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance!

Aggressive driving = straining mechanical parts. There are physical limits. I guess that on most early 2011 loaners (demo cars) the clutch was replaced after only few K miles. And the transmission also took a beating with all those test drives demonstrating each time the power output.

Some suggestions:

Interesting read: "Understanding and Analyzing Manual Transmission Failures" (2011):
http://www.rsgear.com/blog/2011/5/23...-failures.aspx
Excerpt:
"The road to ruin begins with the clutch. The primary issue with transmission damage is an improperly releasing clutch. A worn or slipping clutch causes a lack of torque transfer from the engine to the transmission, but does the transmission little or no harm. In order to have the synchronizers in the transmission function properly for smooth clash free shifts, the clutch must fully release when depressed, disconnecting the motor from the transmission completely and cleanly. The amount of pedal travel (2-4 inches on average) will result in an air gap at the disc of about 50/1000ths of an inch. The motor is not transferring torque into the transmission, and the output shaft of the trans is now being driven by the drive wheels. If there is no disconnect between the engine and transmission due to an improperly adjusted clutch travel, the synchronizers are now fighting the engine torque load. This causes grinding notchy shifts which will destroy the synchronizer or blocker rings, the engagement teeth on the speed gears and synchro sliding sleeves, the synchronizer keys, shift fork pads and the forks themselves."

No CDV delete or clutch stop for me:

Artemis, thanks for the input.

The car has the CDV (although on this particular occasion I can see contributing to the slip) and no clutch stop!

I understand that aggressive driving causes additional stain on clutch. What I meant by the no particular stain during track sessions comment was that there weren't any hard and clutch dropping launches. All starts were in gear accelerations with warming up and cooling down laps at the beginning and the end of each session.

As for the faulty seal, I've checked the the common issues sticky but can't find it...
