Please HELP Error Codes and Misfires
Hi, so i have a 2009 135i with full bolt ons running e85 and my car occasionally when i go wide open throttle cuts power, begins to shake and the ses lite comes on. The most common times this happens are when im shifting from second to third gear. My car is a 6MT. I pulled the following codes from my procede.
29D1 29F3 29E1 I dont know what the definitions are for those or how i should go about fixing it. Thanks for your help. |

First Question: Is it tuned specifically for E-85?

29d1 is cylinder 5 misfire.
29f3 is the fuel pressure sensor. 29e1 is a fuel mixture code since you are running e85. I would suggest getting a new plug for cylinder 5, and if that doesn't cure the misfire, then it's probably your coil. And if that still doesn't solve your misfire, then it's the injector. |

Thank you! what about the fuel pressure sensor? And i may take it to the stealership tomorrow to see what they have to say about it. See if i can get it fixed under warranty, but thats questionable.

John D, after I had my n54 E85 tuned i quickly started getting both the 29d1 and 29f3
error codes. The tuner had warned me this may happen given that I had the original spark plugs on an engine with 38k miles. I changed them out a few days later and I've not seen any of the error codes since. Not sure how old your spark plugs are....what I've learned is when you have an E85 tune you need plugs with less than 20k or so on em'. A tune like that really asks alot of the engine and exposes the age of your plugs. If it does end up being a plug issue you may want to change them yourself. Why? In my case, I couldn't get the car to push out those error codes when on standard maps. I didn't want to drive into a dealership with the E85 map activated or error codes associated with that map. I don't know what happens if you go back to stock map and don't clear codes from the E85 map. Anyways, I just bought the plugs/tools for less than $100 and did it myself in an hour. There are many more details you'd need to do this, pm me if replacing plugs is a route you decide to take. |

I have had this exact some issue. I bought the plugs that I am going to swap them in tonight. Hoping this fixes my issue! If not I may piggy back on this post and upload some outputs from my JB4.
I remember with some of my jap cars people talked about going a step colder for big bumps in power. Is this a relevant thing with the n54? |

as many noted, sounds like coils and a plug. all a cheap fix that you can DIY.
I had the same codes, I put in all new plugs (car had ~33k miles) and changed the coil from the misfiring cylinder just to be save. The car stopped misfiring and ran well. Later a dealer fixed my low pressure fuel pump sensor. Since the car has been solid. |

It looks like if it is relevant, it is not till you hit some really big numbers on the dyno. A good indication is that 135i and 1M use the same spark plugs.

What would you consider really big numbers? i know the subaru guys are switching around 350 to 400 at the wheels, but then again thats in a rice burner.
