BMW Performance Spring Part #'s

Hi All,

I am trying to order some BMWP springs and I know there are specific part #'s depending on how my vehicle is optioned (weight). I've called numerous dealers around me and they cant seem to pull up the proper part #'s.

Can someone please guide me and help me find the part # I need?

My car: 2012 BMW 135i Coupe with DCT, sunroof, electric seats, nav, HK sound system... not sure if anything else is required to determine Part # but if so, please let me know and I can provide.

I know you are in Canada, but you might try sending an email with your VIN to getbmwparts.com. Very helpful people there. They might give you the PNs even if you aren't buying from them. One way to find out, nothing to lose.

When shopping for my springs, I was considering going up 1 step so did a lot of digging into this. I found that a 135i with MT, sunroof, comfort access, electric seats, heated seats, Zenon adaptive, headlight washers, nav and HK sound system took front / rear T3 / T2. Since the DCT is slightly heavier, I'd say this is right for you.

I think the part numbers are:

31 33 6 788 893

33 53 6 788 899

I bought from Tischer / GetBMWParts. Jason R there was very good to work with and they were competitive on price.

Annoyingly, I found a way into a spring selector a while back but the door on that closed. Tischer can certainly plug your vin into the selector and confirm what I've said.

Yay! GetBMWParts came through and advised me of the correct part numbers for my car.

front springs: 31-33-6-788-893
rear springs: 33-53-6-788-900

... these are individual part numbers so two of each will need to be ordered for all 4 corners.

Those are T3 / T3 I think. I was off on the rear, but, I guess the DCT just adds that little bit of extra weight. Can you purchase from them being in Canada? I don't think you can better their price but shipping might come into play.

What's nice about BMW springs - be it BMWP or otherwise - is they have a few 'strengths' of each spring so you get what's right for your car.

I'm planning to pair these BMWP springs with KONI YELLOWS/SPORTS but out of curiosity, do you think I could pair these BMWP springs with OEM M-Sport dampers?

I really don't know. I would guess it will work, just not be optimal. There is a lot of talk around matching springs and dampers. I think much of the matching is having the right bumpstops and valving. Both can be fine tuned with Koni sports. (If you go the Koni route I can dig up the part no's for the bumpstops as recommended and purchased from GetBMWParts.)

This is a bit ducking your question - are your dampers high mileage? If so, you may not be far from needing to replace them and changing out the fronts takes a lot of effort or $ if you not diy'ing.

I wouldn't use old dampers with new springs. Go with the new Konis. Adjust to your liking. Let us know what you think.

Definitely not. I’m going to be getting the Koni yellows but for a moment thought of just replacing my stock M Sport dampers with the same thing to just freshen things up.

The part no's are:

Front - 31 33 10 96 0 99

Rear - 33 53 67 88 9 05

These were recommended to me by GetBMWParts and have worked out nicely. I don't think either one are OE for a 1er.

How much stiffer are the performance springs? Can you use them with B6's? Does it lower the car? Thanks!

According to BMW, the spring rates are increased 48% compared to the standard suspension and 34% compared to the M Sport suspension, and it lowers the car by 25mm compared to the standard suspension and by 10mm compared to the M Sport suspension. The BMW Perform. springs are considered lowering springs and my understanding is the B8s should be used with lowering springs instead of the B6s.

If you use Bilstien B6 or B8, you don't need to buy the bump stops because the are internal to the Bilstein shocks and struts. I believe the main difference between the B6 and B8 is the length of the shafts and the engagement point of the bump stops.

I thought only the front dampers had built-in bump stops while the rear dampers do not. Maybe someone can help confirm?

You could be right about the rears. I think the B6 or B8 may be supplied with bump stops for the rears as well, but I'm not sure.

Everything required was supplied with my B12 kit. Should be the same even if you are just buying shocks.

And yes rears are external bumpstops.
