Steering Ratio?

Anyone know how many turns lock-to-lock the 1er has? The 1M is said to have a quick steering ratio with 2.2 turns and I wonder if a swap may be possible?

I was just wondering the same thing. I found it...Turns lock-to-lock 2.9.

you'd need to swap the steering rack...and maybe the pump too.

The variable ratio Active Steering in my 328i wagon feels like about a 15% quicker ratio at very slow speeds (aids parking and slow corners) and perhaps 10~15% slower at 75 mph - making the car very stable on the interstate.

All other things being equal, I'd think that the 25% ratio reduction contemplated by the OP would make the car pretty twitchy at highway speeds - especially in a crosswind!

Hmm...135i-2.7 /2.9 vs 2.2-1M. If this is the case, this is very minimal. I would have to drive a 1M and see first hand. "If" its THAT much better..........then i would hit the salvage yards and pick one up from an M3 for $100.(im guessing its the same rack)

Nor am I

Car and Driver lists it as 2.7 on this data sheet.
