N54 Coolant Hose Adapter.

Hi All,

There seems to be a aluminium coolant hose adapter available for our cars.

Refer to the image.

It claims to have a bigger internal diameter for better coolant flow than the OEM item.

Also if you go for the OEM, you have to buy the hose as well as it comes together as a set.

I know it's just a machined piece of aluminium, but would there be any difference between one manufacturer from the other? Their descriptions all seem to be the same, as well as the claims.

Any truth behind this or should I just get a OEM hose and adapter?

TIA.

OE has plenty of flow at that location- you don't need the aluminum part for flow reasons. You get it because the plastic one fails, separating behind the mounting flange where it enters the head causing a leak.

Typical fail time is anywhere past ~70K miles, and if you're not leaking yet and have /any/ reason to be in that area it's a good idea to replace as preventative maintenance.

I just installed this on my E88 N55 so the N54 should work. When I was doing my OFHG, I had to remove this water hose and it fell apart when taking it out. Dealer wanted $110 for the complete hose. I opted to use this metal fitting instead.

After cutting the metal band away and removing the plastic coupler, the inner portions of the hose was deteriorated as well. I couldn't find the complete piece so I believe it's stuck in my system now and eventually will cause my water pump to fail, who knows when....

Since there really isn't an improvement from a performance/efficacy standpoint, I'll just get the OEM part which also come with a new hose.

Thanks.
