I do exactly the same thing as Derek whether it is my X5M or GT3 or Golf GTI. That is the best way to run in an engine. Modern engine requires load during breakin. My car has always dynoed higher than other equavalent cars and never had an issue.

Meant to be tongue in cheek, maybe I should have included ...but as you say it's his car...I couldn't care less how he drives it.

OP, what did the manual/engineers say about a break-in period and first service?

So if you were a slightly modded N54 owner looking to avoid limp mode on track days would you suggest going for the radiator? And just so I understand you correctly you were using the stock oil cooler on this track day, correct?

In the drive over video (awesome btw) did I spot two oil coolers (one on each side's air dam)? Also what is on the driver's side in front of the intercooler?

Interesting that the exhaust comes to a Y before entering the muffler. Why not Y further up and run a single pipe to the muffler?

OP:Sweet car sounds and looks great. Thanks for sharing.

I have to disagree, the 335is is the nicer car in my humble opinion.

If "nice" is what you're looking for, then the 1M is indeed not the car for you. This car wasn't built to be nice and it's not. It's a drivers car. Did you read the OP quoting the M engineers? The reason he didn't spin it was because he didn't touch the DSC button. And they meant it exactly like it was said. Drive it and you'll understand. Looks depend on personal preferences so there I won't argue. Performance wise a 335i (I haven't driven a 3 series is) feels like a lame boulevard cruiser compared to a 1M.

@ WLKSFTLY: Have you ever driven a MINI Cooper S?

If so how does the 1M go kart handling driving style compare?
Also you mention the gear lever throw not being that short, again can you compare the gearbox the the MINI if you have driven one?

I absolutely love my MINI and am hoping the 1M is similar with more power!

Curious if they reflash the ECU for delivery to North America? Obviously there is no speed limiter in place.

There is. There is no "remove limiter" option for the 1M. If there was, I would have ordered mine with it. What you're seing here is the following: every M is limited to 270 (actually 269 or something). If you're going 270 according to the speedo, you will be running an actual 255 or close. The term in english is "reads fast" if I'm not mistaken. The limiter is not attached to the speedometer. Take it to 290 according to the speedo and and at some point the limiter will kick in. When you're running an M3 with 300 on the clock that doesn't mean you're actually doing 300km/h!

Correct, there is a bit of leeway in the speedo reading for variations in tyre pressure and road safety (speed cameras) though i think it's usually 5mph give or take, don't know what that is in kph....
