Upgrades for 1M Recommendations

Hey guys, I'm just starting out my mod journey and planning to get a charge pipe. Honestly I don't know much but have been reading up some articles for recommendations:

https://bmwtuning.co/bmw-n54-chargep...upgrade-guide/

They've recommended VRSF but I saw on some threads that say they had some fitment issues too? Is this still true?

Any other basic mods that you guys would recommend? Thanks!

For me, the most drastic change has been ditching the OEM suspension for some Ohlins coilovers.

Huge improvement… not cheap but worth it.

Agree, but it all depend on what you are doing with your 1m

If you want to keep the car as close to stock as possible:

- coilovers + alignment
- mid pipe
- charge pipe
- high flow air intake filter

If I were to start over with mine and wanted to keep it simple but spend on purposeful upgrades which make the care more fun for regular use this is what I would do.

All of the OEM plastic charge pipes crack eventually even on stock boost. A metal one is preventive maintenance in my opinion. As for other mods, it really depends on your goal. I installed a clutch stop and 135i sourced mid pipe and my 1M is a dream to have as my daily driver now. If I was tracking the car, my mods would have been completely different. IMO the stock 1M is one of the best balanced performance cars I’ve ever driven bone stock and really needs nothing.

CP is a must, but keep in mind, if you're in CA, you'll need to remove it for smog every 2 years. Not difficult to do, but smog places will fail the visual. Unless you have a hook-up, I recommend holding on to your stock pipe.

From there, just depends on what you're doing with the car.
Sound? Get a Maddad or N55 midpipe. Or exhaust.
Suspension? I run KW V3s which aren't quite as pricey as Ohlins, but they perform fantastic on the road.
Power? Look at a MHD Tune.
Wheels?
Exterior CF bits?

For me, camber plates and coilovers made the more dramatic difference. If you live where the roads stay in decent condition, its worth considering. I love my Ohlins on the street, but there is no way I coul;d have used them when i lived in the pothole-riddled northeast.

Here's what I would recommend:
- ER charge pipe
- OEM blackline tailights
- cdv delete
- ohlins R&T
- M performance steering wheel
- Maddad (or N55) midpipe

I've gotten all of the above except the midpipe, but that's my next on the list.
