Folding Mirror

Is it possible to program the car so that when you lock it the external mirrors fold in and come out again when you start the car???

Don't know what is available via iDrive, but ...

If you lock the car using the metal key contained within the fob and hold it for a moment in its furthest position turned to the right, the windows will roll-up, sunroof close, and the mirrors will fold in. Unlocking with the pushbutton on the fob will extend the mirrors back to driving position. Holding down the unlock button on the fob will open all windows and the sunroof. You could also fold the mirrors in via the push button before exiting the car, but you knew that.

I almost wish the fob contained a switch-blade key like VW has.

And, yes, it'd be cool if a normal click on the roundel lock could fold in the mirrors too. Doesn't work now, but maybe later as a programmable option.

Waiting for September software updates!

When you lock the car using the button on the fob, just keep it pressed for a couple of seconds longer and it will fold in the mirrors*.

When you press to unlock the car it automatically returns the mirrors to driving position....no need to keep the button pressed this time.

*will also close any open windows but you have to keep the button pressed until the window is up.

Yup - just keep the lock button down for a couple of seconds and everything winds up / folds in. I didn't figure this out for the first week, then tried it and it worked - a great surprise!

Thanks for the info. I had tried it last night with the roundel button and it didn't button everything up - based on your comments, will try again!

Thats an awesome feature. Something else to show off now.

In amsterdam I use to see 745s (may have been 7series diesel) park and the mirror fold up. Jealous cause it wasnt an option in the US.

I believe the USA model does not allow the remote to close things up in case someone gets chopped in half and the lawyers get into the act. You can use the physical key to button it up as you said. That way you can hear the screams better than doing it a distance

My dealer said you cannot program the mirrors to automatically fold in. They said you must press the button each time.

Part of the US Premium Package. I looked in that dealer's guide thing. It lists the detailed content of the packages.

I tried again a few times on my US 330i - holding down the lock button and it was a no-go on auto-fold or auto-roll-up. jfk - you're probably right that its seen as a liability thing.

I tried holding the lock button on mine and it did not fold in the mirrors. I held it for a long time just to make sure.

So has anyone with a US E90 have the hold down/folding mirror option working?

Or is it official it's a Non-US thing?

You have to use the integrated key for all of the windows and sunroof to close. I don’t know if that will fold in the mirror. To open the windows and sunroof you can use the unlock button on the remote. Hope this help
