I've considered importing as well, but my understanding is that there are issues with warranty problems with BMW if you do that. Not to mention that if you want to import a car which is $35k, you'll end up paying $45k after the dealership and customs finishes with you.. at that point in time I might as well just buy something here.

I think BMW has deliberately made it expensive for people who want to import because they know they can make more money from Canadians than Americans, especially considering how high our dollar is to the American one. I have no idea why. Especially since the US cars are nearly $10k cheaper new!

I'm looking at MY08s. They are going for about 28-29k US with good miles. PST GST and import tax of 6%. and some change for misc fees.

I'm still looking into the warranty thing too.

In addition, the cars prices are based on the euro in respect to BMW. Our dollar is only strong against the US and not the euro. Another variable to the increased price north of the border.

the conversion fees are a little steep. Transport Canada regulations state that only an authorized BMW retailer can do the conversion, and they don't do it cheap. I looked into it before buying mine, the warranty isn't the issue it's getting the thing registered in Canada. You have to change the spedo and the climate controls to Canadian spec as well as a couple other little odds and ends.

I recently received a car sheet from a dealer in the GTA identifying all of the brand new 135i 09 still in inventory. They had slashed their prices by as much as 10k. You could still buy a loaded brand new 09 for about 40k.

Irishlace/1Hungryman:

Can you give me the name of the dealer? I'd like to more details about their inventory sheet.

It doesn't make sense to buy something used when I can get something new for nearly the same price. Especially if I can come in at 40k!
Something I'll definately consider. Especially when BMW was offering 0.9 percent financing a little while ago, not sure if they are still offering it.

The local BMW here only had automatics in stock for 2009, which is unfortunate. The inventory numbers don't mean anything to me.

Basically what I'm looking for:

- 2009 MY
- 6-Speed Manual
- M Sport Package
- Premium Audio
- No Navigation System
- The less options outside of these, the better.
- Any colour except red or yellow. (Interior and/or Exterior)
- 15,000 km's or less on the clock.

I know I can't be picky, but those discounts are really eye catching.

I'm guessing the $79k model is fully decked out, fully loaded with every single option imaginable, plus I bet it probably comes with a Dinan Stage 3 tune for both powertrain and suspension.

BMW's have a lot more luxury than I'm used to, especially in the base models. Heck, I'd be quite content with cloth seats, manual climate controls, lack of A/C and manually adjustable mirrors. (At least I can get it without a power seat!)

I've personally found that most automatic climate control systems where you specify a temperature don't seem to work half a damn, except for when it's hot outside and you want to control the A/C. (Which is what.. about 2 weeks out of the year. ) They don't seem to work as well when it's -30 C outside and you want to keep the car warm. Usually I just set them to full blast and modulate the heat with the fan speed, mainly because the heater can't keep up. (I guess since Turbocharged cars run hotter, it probably isn't as much of a problem anyway.) I've read a few complaints on these boards where the only way to get decent heat is to set the temperature up to as hot as it'll go.

The fact that Europeans can order these cars with cloth seats but Canadians can't bothers me as well. I mean, what's wrong with cloth? I like cloth. I'd consider it more luxurious than letherette (aka Vinyl) anyday. I think they should have a few BMW engineers come to Calgary when it's -35 C outside with a -80 C windchill. Then someone should purposely disconnect the fuse for the heated seats and put them into a 128 or 135 with those "Leatherette" seats for a few hours (Get them to drive from Calgary to Vancouver for example) and see how much they like it.

I know this post is kind of off topic, but in all honesty, every car I have ever owned has had cloth seats. They're not so bad.

Yeah, that's the one thing I looked into as well. Unless you can find a used 2008MY 135i in the states for around $20-$30k, it's just not worth the hassle.

Perhaps the only time I'd consider importing is if the US dollar went to crackville and suddenly the Canadian dollar is worth $1.50 USD.. Then perhaps it would be at a point in time where it would suddenly make sense.

This is why I am still investigating. 135 are going for 25k range. I have US sitting in the bank so the conversion rate isn't that big of a deal. People are trying to offload these cars and I am making a cash sale so I'll make an offer at what I would want to spend. Buying a comparable model.

Again, the speedo I am investigating because it has both mph and km/h and the odo is electronic which is able to switch back and fourth through obd and/or a pedal trick. I want to see what they deem a switch and if the dual speedo will suffice. probly not cause its a cash grab but if I don't ask I won't know. In all honesty an extra $1000 for conversion isn't going to break the bank even a little more but I need a definite answer. Again I will report any info found.

Yea, Parkview and BMW Toronto (and a Mini dealership) are now owned by the same family so they share all the info. They're building a Mini dealership right next to BMW Toronto.

I sent this e-mail to smquinn@parkviewbmw.com and cc'd it to sdecola@parkviewbmw.com:

Quote:
Hello. Please contact me via E-mail only for now as the number I've provided is long distance and I'm located in Calgary, Alberta. Any additional contact information is provided in my signature.

Please relay this e-mail to one of your client advisors if applicable.

I'm interested in obtaining more information about the following stock numbers please:

10187, 10257, N4510, N4583, N5612 and N5718.

I'm looking for the following if the following stock numbers are not relevant:

- 2009 Model Year 135i
- Standard Coupe, no Cabriolets please.
- _No_ demos please unless there are no other options
- 6-Speed Manual transmission
- Premium Audio (ie. Sirius Sattelite Radio)
- M Sport Package
- _No_ navigation system please.
- Preferably no extra options ontop of the ones I've specified. (If possible)
- Any exterior colour except red or yellow.
- Any interior colour except red.

I have a few questions.

- Would it be cheaper to pick up the car and drive it back from Toronto to Calgary, or just to have it shipped via car carrier to the Calgary BMW dealership for pickup? (This relates to the next question.)

- Since I am Albertan, the difference in PST is 8 percent. Is there a way I can avoid paying this legally? (On $45k, That's $3600 tax that I wouldn't have to pay if I purchased the vehicle in Alberta.)

- Will Calgary BMW support the warranty on this vehicle if I purchase it from your dealership?

- Can BMW offer me financing for this car if I purchase it out of province?

- I believe for a while BMW was offering 0.9 percent financing on 2009 model years, is this still in effect? I'm not interested in leasing.

- Are the prices listed here: http://www.solutiondevelopment.ca/eN...kview-bmw.html quoted as MSRP before taxes, PDI, etc, etc?

- Would it be a problem if I looked after the registration and insurance of the car while it's in transit (If I opt to drive the car back), since I will not be keeping it in Ontario?

I'm just investigating my options. As well, I'm not interested in a trade in, I'd be buying this car straight out if I can work out a deal.

I realize some of the questions I may have would be considered stupid, but I expect a lot of stupid answers back. As well, I have relatives who live in Ottawa, so this would be a great opportunity to see them if purchasing the vehicle at your dealership is a viable option.

I just thought I'd also mention that your "Contact Us" form is broken. The serve throws an exception whenever I try to submit something. Can you have your IT guy look into this please?

Thank you very much for your time.
If it's not private, I'll post the response on this board so that other Canadians who are purchasing one of these cars can get some answers.

Response from Parkview BMW:

Quote:
My name is {Redacted} from Parkview BMW.
Thank you for your interest in our 2009 BMW 135i coupe.
However, we only have automatic transmission 2009 135i coupe left, and I'm just wondering if you would be interested in automatic transmission as well.

Here are the details of the remaining 2009 135i coupes.

10187 (Jet Black / Coral Red Leather) : Premium Pkg, Premium Sound Pkg, M Sport Pkg, Automatic Trans with paddle shift
10257 (Titanium Silver / Black Leatherette) : Premium Sound Pkg, M Sport Pkg, Automatic with paddle shift, Sunroof.
N4510 (Alpine White / Coral Red Leather) : Premium Pkg, Premium Sound Pkg, M Sport Pkg, Automatic Trans with paddle shift

N4583 (Monaco Blue / Black Leather) : Premium Pkg, Comfort Pkg, Premium Sound Pkg, Automatic with Paddle Shift
N5612 (Titanium Silver / Black Leather) : Premium Pkg, Navigation Pkg, Automatic with Paddle shift, Ski bag
N5718 (Space Grey / Taupe Leather) : Premium Pkg, M Sport Pkg, Automatic with paddle shift.

I have a 2010 135i coupe with manual transmission as well.
Black Sapphire on Coral Red Leather : Navigaion Pkg, M Sport Pkg, and sunroof = $51,000 MSRP

Here are the answers to your questions.

- The shipping will cost about $900 to your door, we do not ship the car to another dealership.

- We have few customers who purchased the car through our dealership, and I believe they got their taxes reimbursed when they register the car in Alberta once they get the vehicle. (You will have to pay both taxes first and you will have to do the reimbursement process)

- Warranty and service will be covered in any authorized BMW dealership in Canada.

- The current finance rate for all remaining 2009 135i coupe is 1.9% up to 60months. And yes, you can apply financing through us as well.

- The price listed on the website is "clear-out CASH Purchase price Only" and it is MSRP + Freight and PDI. Admin fee, all the other taxes are extra.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything I can assist you with.
You can always reach me via e-mail or phone anytime.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

I've been looking through some of these discounts and it seems to me that they aren't bad deals, as long as you don't mind an automatic.

FYI, I was quoted $46k MRSP on a car from Calgary BMW which met all of my options and that was for a brand new 2010 Model year.. $52k after taxes. That's without any discounts or haggling.

I'm not sure what to make of that whole response. Especially when the person from the dealer mentions a 135i with a Corel Red interior which is nearly $5k over MSRP than what I was quoted at BMW here. Perhaps it's got a lot more options.

Stock # N5718 and Stock # 10257 would look as very promising candidates, considering that both of them are well optioned out and are nearly up to $3k cheaper MSRP, however they're both automatics.

Damnit, why are manuals so rare? Even Calgary BMW had a few 2009MY 135i's in stock, but they were all automatics as well.

I think the only way I'd ever consider an automatic in a car this powerfull is if it was a DSG. Supposedly, the new 2011 M1 is supposed to have one but I'm worried about the price premium. If the Ferrari's and F1 formula racers have one, then it's gotta be decent, right?
