I've considered importing as well, but my understanding is that there are issues with warranty problems with BMW if you do that. Not to mention that if you want to import a car which is $35k, you'll end up paying $45k after the dealership and customs finishes with you.. at that point in time I might as well just buy something here.
I think BMW has deliberately made it expensive for people who want to import because they know they can make more money from Canadians than Americans, especially considering how high our dollar is to the American one. I have no idea why. Especially since the US cars are nearly $10k cheaper new! |

I'm looking at MY08s. They are going for about 28-29k US with good miles. PST GST and import tax of 6%. and some change for misc fees.
I'm still looking into the warranty thing too. In addition, the cars prices are based on the euro in respect to BMW. Our dollar is only strong against the US and not the euro. Another variable to the increased price north of the border. |

I recently received a car sheet from a dealer in the GTA identifying all of the brand new 135i 09 still in inventory. They had slashed their prices by as much as 10k. You could still buy a loaded brand new 09 for about 40k.

Can you give me the name of the dealer? I'd like to more details about their inventory sheet. It doesn't make sense to buy something used when I can get something new for nearly the same price. Especially if I can come in at 40k! Something I'll definately consider. Especially when BMW was offering 0.9 percent financing a little while ago, not sure if they are still offering it. The local BMW here only had automatics in stock for 2009, which is unfortunate. The inventory numbers don't mean anything to me. Basically what I'm looking for: - 2009 MY - 6-Speed Manual - M Sport Package - Premium Audio - No Navigation System - The less options outside of these, the better. - Any colour except red or yellow. (Interior and/or Exterior) - 15,000 km's or less on the clock. I know I can't be picky, but those discounts are really eye catching. |

I'm guessing the $79k model is fully decked out, fully loaded with every single option imaginable, plus I bet it probably comes with a Dinan Stage 3 tune for both powertrain and suspension.
BMW's have a lot more luxury than I'm used to, especially in the base models. Heck, I'd be quite content with cloth seats, manual climate controls, lack of A/C and manually adjustable mirrors. (At least I can get it without a power seat!) I've personally found that most automatic climate control systems where you specify a temperature don't seem to work half a damn, except for when it's hot outside and you want to control the A/C. (Which is what.. about 2 weeks out of the year. ) They don't seem to work as well when it's -30 C outside and you want to keep the car warm. Usually I just set them to full blast and modulate the heat with the fan speed, mainly because the heater can't keep up. (I guess since Turbocharged cars run hotter, it probably isn't as much of a problem anyway.) I've read a few complaints on these boards where the only way to get decent heat is to set the temperature up to as hot as it'll go. The fact that Europeans can order these cars with cloth seats but Canadians can't bothers me as well. I mean, what's wrong with cloth? I like cloth. I'd consider it more luxurious than letherette (aka Vinyl) anyday. I think they should have a few BMW engineers come to Calgary when it's -35 C outside with a -80 C windchill. Then someone should purposely disconnect the fuse for the heated seats and put them into a 128 or 135 with those "Leatherette" seats for a few hours (Get them to drive from Calgary to Vancouver for example) and see how much they like it. I know this post is kind of off topic, but in all honesty, every car I have ever owned has had cloth seats. They're not so bad. |

Perhaps the only time I'd consider importing is if the US dollar went to crackville and suddenly the Canadian dollar is worth $1.50 USD.. Then perhaps it would be at a point in time where it would suddenly make sense. |

This is why I am still investigating. 135 are going for 25k range. I have US sitting in the bank so the conversion rate isn't that big of a deal. People are trying to offload these cars and I am making a cash sale so I'll make an offer at what I would want to spend. Buying a comparable model.
Again, the speedo I am investigating because it has both mph and km/h and the odo is electronic which is able to switch back and fourth through obd and/or a pedal trick. I want to see what they deem a switch and if the dual speedo will suffice. probly not cause its a cash grab but if I don't ask I won't know. In all honesty an extra $1000 for conversion isn't going to break the bank even a little more but I need a definite answer. Again I will report any info found. |

I've been looking through some of these discounts and it seems to me that they aren't bad deals, as long as you don't mind an automatic.
FYI, I was quoted $46k MRSP on a car from Calgary BMW which met all of my options and that was for a brand new 2010 Model year.. $52k after taxes. That's without any discounts or haggling. I'm not sure what to make of that whole response. Especially when the person from the dealer mentions a 135i with a Corel Red interior which is nearly $5k over MSRP than what I was quoted at BMW here. Perhaps it's got a lot more options. Stock # N5718 and Stock # 10257 would look as very promising candidates, considering that both of them are well optioned out and are nearly up to $3k cheaper MSRP, however they're both automatics. Damnit, why are manuals so rare? Even Calgary BMW had a few 2009MY 135i's in stock, but they were all automatics as well. I think the only way I'd ever consider an automatic in a car this powerfull is if it was a DSG. Supposedly, the new 2011 M1 is supposed to have one but I'm worried about the price premium. If the Ferrari's and F1 formula racers have one, then it's gotta be decent, right? |
