It looks like a very good job. Very even coating and I'm also surprised it only took 8 cans.

I'm not a huge fan of matte colours usually, though we had a dyno day recently here in Sydney and there was actually a wrapped matte metallic grey 135i which actually looked really good. I think adding in the metalic colour to a matte job adds a lot.

If plasti-dip is cheap for you there over in Canada (It costs $25/can here...) what you could possibly try and dabble with is mixing black with some silver metaliser and see how you go. When you're bored of the matte black of course. You wouldn't be able to use cans but would have to use the gallon tins and some type of spray gun.

Cans here in Canada are $20 plus tax. I live close enough to the USA border that a guy brought some up from the states and i bought it off of him for $11 a can. I'm not sure if we can get the metalizer here.. i'll have to take a look

Ouch that sucks. I have no idea why it would cost that much for you guys. I don't even know why it costs that much for us

If you wanted to do some kind of metallic black with plasti-dip it would definitely need to be premixed. I do not think it would work to use a metaliser spray can over the coats of black because to apply an even looking coat you would need to spray a few layers and then it just ends up looking silver... If you only spray a light layer on it would look blotchy.

To be honest I have only seen videos or pictures of the metaliser spray can being layered over a black base coat so I'd be highly interested in seeing a custom metallic plasti-dip job.

Check out some of the photos of the matte metallic grey 135i. Despite my bias against matte colours even I have to admit it's a beautiful wrap job and colour.

How hard is it to do it right?
Has anyone in the GTA done it?
I'm terrible with detail oriented things.

Seriously hard to mess this up. I did it in 45kmph winds, outdoors, between two trees.. as long as you spray it relatively evenly you cant mess it up.

I'm more worried about how to tape it for clean edges.

the trick is not to tape it for clean edges... take a look at the dipyourcar videos on youtube. they dont tape very precisely for a reason. i oversprayed on to my windows purposely and i got wonderful edges because it all just peeled off

wow good job, looks exactly like those wrapped cars, what's the major difference versus those who spend thousands in wrapping?

I did some research and plastic dip normally last a few months versus the vinyl can last for years.
