Off-topic, but how are you going to get BMWNA's attention w/ this list of requests? They probably have a huge backlog of E90 related fixes and updates, so how would we get traction from a small tiny forum on the Internet?

i was just going to say that. making a list like that on a forum makes no sense to me except for making ourselves angry(er) about things that should have been fixed by september already but are not. unless BMWNA somehow gets it, or one of you can do it, i don't really see a point of creating such a list.

Tim - good suggestions. I thought of the horn idea but realized that it would probably take more than software to make it happen. If you know otherwise, please let me know, and i'll add it.

My hope is to compile a clear, concise list of issues that BMW can actually fix (unlike the "Give me x" where x = more HP/SMG/CA retrofit/etc/etc).

Then I plan on emailing and mailing this list to BMW NA. I will include in the letter that it represents the collected feedback of a very active, loyal internet community dedicated to the e90 (e90post, bimmerfest, e90fanatics), and that the feedback summarized here is literally thousands of hours of collected market research, for free. It will not be malicious, just honest feedback from their bread-and-butter 3 series customers. It may result in nothing, but at least it won't be our own fault if it does.

I'll enjoy my car regardless.

Thanks for starting this thread petesamprs, I think it is a really good idea.

I am sure BMW crawl over this site anyway, so we will get their attention one way or another. A coordinated approach to this makes their job of improving our beloved car even easier.

It's more than software, but I wish the Navigation system understood traffic patterns. The "fastest route" and "shortest route" or mostly worthless without understanding traffic patterns. I think the Acura TL navigation has this functionality.

timmerweb:: I believe you can enable audio sound when locking the car...look in the manual.

My wish...

When playing MP3's you have to press List then Title to get the title/artist to display...
1. Make this default for MP3's
or
2. Retain this setting (right now when you shut off power and start again, the regular Track XX screen appears.

3. There was some mention that the MP3 player only supports version 1.xx of ID Tags for MP3, I burned all my CD's that way and haven't tried >ver 2.xx. If this is indeed the case, would like support for that added.

4. Fog light setting (on/off) should be retained. It currently gets lost on power off.

5. Some indicator in the control center regarding seat memory, i.e which memory A/B is being programmed/used.

6. Not a software issue but the stereo display has opposite polarization to the dash and climate control, this means it cannot be read when wearing polarized sunglasses.

Basically I have been prompted by another post - Clone the Audi feature where holding "Auto" on the climate control for 2 seconds locks the passenger's temp to the driver's until the passenger adjusts it again, and then the temps unlock.

It is great when you are alone in the car because you don't have to adjust both knobs to get the temp you want... Not everyone may like this, so perhaps like the 3 blink indicators, make it a configurable feature.

Also

Make the auto wiper setting persistent. Ie don't make it switch off after the ignition has been turned off, requiring you to reset it next time you get back into the car.

Again maybe this could be configurable so that every one's tastes are catered for.

I like the climate holding feature and the persistent windshield wiper feature. Now, I'll be annoyed that my car doesn't have this...LOL!

Couple more.

Get iDrive to retain its last display after switching of the engine.

Get BMW to remove some of the crap messages, thought up for people who should not be driving anyway!

Have the radio's Cd track # or station frequency show on the display inside the instrument cluster while driving. The A6 does this and when you have that info available at a quick glance - especially while changing while driving - it's a HUGE plus. Plus it'll eliminate the polaized lens problem - hopefully...?

I'm pretty sure nobody mentioned this. But I have the IDrive system and when you play an MP3 cd it lists the filename. Now when you enable RDS it displays the Artist Name & Track Name for only the playing track. The minute you go to the next the filename reappears. It would be great if the Artist Name & Track Name is retained at all times.

Correction: what you have listed as "OBC" is really part of Personal Profiles.

I think this is a great idea if we can show strength in numbers around 3 or 4 key things and keep hammering, we might be able to actually make a difference.

Has anyone mentioned the AUX Audio input being able to be switched through the audio source cycle button? For those with iDrive, the audio cycle button doesn't cycle through the AUX input (it only goes through CD, FM, AM, and Sat. if you have that).

Also, it's been mentioned a couple of times on this forum, but it has never been an issue for me, is for the map display in Navigation mode to stretch across the whole screen when you turn the assist window off.

Are you talking about the audio cycle button on the steering wheel? Mine works and goes through to the Aux Port. Mine is an Australian Spec car though - Built Oct 05.

Yes, I started a thread about this awhile back:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6632

Maybe it's another pre/post-September thing. I wonder if this will be corrected with the mp3 capability.

I would like to see them add more settings in the Logic7 room acoustics settings menu. Currently they have 2 concert hall and theatre surely a system like this should have more.

I have post-September, iDrive equipped e90 and I can't cycle to the Audio Aux input from the steering wheel buttons, but I do have MP3 capabilities.

And possibly a feature that would let you tweak the logic 7 on your own. If you have any plugin for winamp or WMP, they all let you adjust the various settings such as this:

I can email this to them once we have a complete list. I know - they probably won't listen, but it's worth a shot. Please make sure these are ONLY software-related changes.

Editted for everyone's comments:
Radio-related:
- Fix the RAND function on the radio to stay selected even when you manually go to the next or previous song
- Fix the RAND function on the radio to remember its setting when you start radio
- Show the track artist/song on the initial song screen (instead of "Track 23")
- Make RDS font size smaller so the entire label can be viewed at once
- Increasing seek speed for song when holding arrow down.

OBC
- Add an option to automatically unlock front/all doors upon turning car off for US cars (and fix the bug where this feature doesn't always work on non-US cars)
- Add an option to automatically shut off parking lights/headlights after certain amount of time if you leave them when engine is off
- Add an option to make clown nose blink without alarm.

iDrive
- increase speed of startup
- increase speed during use
- there should be a way to set preferences for the screen (i.e. When I am in navigation mode, keep perspective on the main screen and arrow display on the assist. But when I am in audio mode, keep perspective view on the assist screen)

Cruise/Active cruise control
- Make ACC failure fall back to normal cruise - currently you go without cruise at all.
- Make braking function on Cruise a bit smoother, especially for Active Cruise

Other
- Show door/trunk open warning before you start moving
- Remember heated seats setting with key
- Allow the ability to customize the unused buttons on the steering
wheel (if you don't have the phone functions, for example)*
- Allow closing of sunroof after engine is off
- Allow Caller ID for call waiting on the mobile phone link.
- Allow use of homelink buttons even when car is off

Can you all contribute?

* not sure if this is possible with just software

Make ALL songs show in Artist/Song mode rather than only the one currently being played.

Speed up the delay between switching MP3 songs.

Have iDrive boot to previous screen after accepting the warning after you restart the engine.

iDrive Climate option to "vent" the car at certain temperatures rather than a certain time.

Include a Trip option on iDrive that counts how long the current trip is. The one currently requires a reset every time you want it to count or else it just adds to the current time. Have ANOTHER one or the option for which way you want it to work.

Logic7 settings as mentioned above.

Sort of has been mentioned:
Allow the pathway lighting to be turned on permenantly for the car. Right now you have to flash your high beams while car is on, then they turn off and come back on. Allow a setting under iDrive>Vehicle Settings>Lighting to have it always perform pathway lighting. *(Mention to avoid shutting the lights off and then back on as this diminishes the light of the Xenon's greatly). A Civic does this and its very useful.

Let the seek option be progressive, start out slow and then increase faster and faster as you hold it longer. My MP3 player has options for 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, and 64x seek speeds. Maybe they can allow this to be an option too.

Audible door lock confirmation would be nice since its standard on a 16 thousand dollar Civic.

They arent going to let you make the clown nose blink as it is controlled by the alarm module which comes with the alarm, so you can remove that. Besides it would defeat the point of them "making" you buy an alarm. They are trying to make a profit after all...
