The purpose of this thread was to warn people where a 245/40/18 front will rub. It was also to let poeple know that nt05s run taller and skinnier than equivlent sized tires. I couldnt give two shits about arc wheels personally, why it tunred into paintpro commenting on widths/offsets and rear wheels is beyond me.

Hey paintpro. I was considering a 245 on an 8 et40 wheel. How exactly does it induce tire wall rollin? I'd think that since the center of the tire is buldged out that you'd have a net effect of adding negative camber in a turn.

I'll draw something to make it more clear

Nvm answered my own question. It induces a positive camber state because less of the contact patch is in contact with the ground.

Ok so question, since obviously this thread is massively OT anyway.

I have a set of 17x8 et OZ wheels on order for my DD/autox wheels. What's the best tire size combo for best handling? I was simply thinking of an 245 square setup so that I could rotate the car better.

I started reading this thread to see if it were possible to run a 245/40/18 up front and instead got to read this forum's version of Jersey Shore. The only thing missing is someone stating factually that the N54 is better than the N55.

Clap, I have it from a reliable source that a 15mm spacer up front will solve all of your problems.

Btw, 245/40/18 tires are working great on my lowered car. I'm running Yoko Advan Neova AD08's which are notoriously oversized compared to their markings too. I have proper width wheels though.

Ok so your 245 which runs wide, mounted on your 8.5 does not rub in the front/rear of the wheel well. But you are saying that my 245, which runs narrow and uses a 8.0 rubs because the tire is too big for the wheel width. What is your reasing for this?

When you turn the wheel to a perfect 45 degree angle, wheel widhts will not change if the tire rubs or not.

Your wide 245 is just as "buldged" on a 8.5 as my narrow 245 on a 8.0.

According to yoko, your infalted width is 9.8 inches, according to nitto my inflated width is 9.65.

Your inflated diameter is 25.7, mine is 25.59.

So are you saying the a .5 less wide wheel, cause my tire to grow .2 inches?
I say .2 because your is 25.7 and mine is a 25.6, you don't rub, I already do so figure its a 25.8 total diameter. If you think my tire grew 5mm, then I will have to disagree.

I actually took something from this thread, which is that I'm not going to be buying 245/40-18's for the fronts on my new ARC-8's. 255's all the way! And yes paintpro, I'm switching to new camber plates so they'll fit.

I would love to be able to fit 255's upfront too. However, from what I understand, it can't be done without massive camber (-2.5 or more), extensive fender modification, as well as spacers. This kind of defeats the purpose of getting 45mm offset wheels in the first place. If you know an easier way to make 255's fit, please do share! =)

Update, 5mm MS spacers installed, problem is gone. No rubbing on the outside with my pervious -1.8 degrees of camber up front.

The wheel still touches the liner, however the occurance of this moved to full lock in either direction. Being that I never fully lock the steering, it is good enough for me.

The same previous driveways are no now rub free.
