Newbie here / 2007 328 xi or 2008 135i
I love my 2007 328 xi...sparkling graphite, black kidney grills, charcoal sidemarkers and tail lights, 17" wheels. Beige letherette, Zcp (Cold weather package). That said, only 235 hp and not very fast. I will be test driving a 2008 BMW 135i tomorrow. No Zcp, no heated seats, manual seats, but black, and Twin Turbo. So,let me here it! Do I buy the 135i if all checks out tomorrow? FYI...mileage is the same (30K) on both as well as price or value. Any other issues with the 135I other than the HPFP?

Hands down 135i all day long, I just went from a 06 330i sedan premium and sport pkg into a 2011 135i DCT M pkg, OMG no comparison, actually this week i've been driving my dads 09 328i and I feel wierd, not fast, like an old man car.

I don't know if the 328xi is e90 or e92, but they are fairly different cars. The 1 series is a bit smaller, but I think it adds to the nimble feeling of the car compared to the 3 series. It will also be smaller inside too, but not uncomfortably so. Plus, its RWD vs. AWD. I always felt that to get the true BMW experience it needed to be RWD (I could be wrong, but thats my opinion).
That said, I don't think you will even look at these responses after driving a manual 135i...I'm sure your mind will be made up on the spot. This car is so fun, I wouldn't doubt that it makes you smile everyday. Go for it! Tim

like others have said, there's no comparison here... 328xi ONLY if you're not going after something fast, agile, and lightweight.

135i all day. Best handling car in the snow if you have good snow tires and some weight in the back. I used to be from Syracuse, NY (14 feet of snow per year). There are a bunch of people from NY who drive 1-series all year long.

Missouri is no Chicago/MN/N.E. but we did get slammed with alot of snow this past year... with "performance winter" tires (Dunlop 3Ds) the car did well on all but one day when the snow was just too high for the car to even get any clearance. Knowing that up north the cities are better equipped to clean the streets, I would have no issues recommending a good set of snows and telling you to get on your way. If you're really worried, get some studless winter tires instead of performance winter tires.

You can't come into a 1 forum asking that sort of question!!!! Have you test driven both of these yet? Before I bought mine, I was going to ask a similar question but then a test drive answered my question in about.....5.1 seconds.
