Updated DME software and got fun noises..
So I updated my DME software late last week in hopes to fix my insanely bad DCT lag.. not only did it fix it (for now) but I got this really fun burble pop backfire stuff going on now. Is this what PPK sounds like? It's addicting!

Sounds like the PPK sw to me.
I suspect that BMW NA uses this sw to shut up us performance minded drivers. We are probably less than 5% of their sales/owners. Most of the BMW products are getting water downed... and to keep us happy - they are offering the PPK as a "fix" but not telling us. At least, that is what I suspect.

As far as software version I'd have to look into it or do a key read as I don't remember.. edit: And I was just browsing TIS and see that they came out with a bulletin for this issue last month.. I've been working on the MINI side of town so didn't notice..

PPK for free, lol that's nice. I wonder if they'd do this for me, too.
The throttle response isn't good, esp. when revving the car in neutral... AND I WANT THE POPS AND BAGS

You cannot get it for free; it doesn't work like that. When you purchase the PPK, BMW sends a request to Sweeping Technologies for an activation code thats achieved through an internal process called a PUMA case. That activation code has to be manually entered into our programming computer via manual entry (digits) as well as with a vehicle order (USB stick). It's not a complicated process, but it most surely cannot be done accidently, or for free. If it could, I would have done it with my last car

We all must know what software update this is! I've been dreading complaining about the DCT lag because I was scared to get the software update that neuters performance as other have noticed. Please let us know some details. I think the paperwork they give you after the service may have some info?

Ahh, I see.
Well then this makes me feel even more comfortable it wasn't just a SA getting tired of hearing your complaints and giving you the PPK software without you knowing it. It is a true software update that we should all get. |

I'd be interested in what update they did. I'm "consulting" with my dealer about the phantom lag. The service manager asked if the lag occurred after PPK1 was installed. Nooooo....
Dealer is supposed to contact BMW and they have some regional field tech thst can see into the car log more than a dealer tech can. Is that true? I'm about to put a bullet in the DCT if the problem doesn't go away. The DCT is like a crazy girlfriend. Lots of fun to be around but goes all psycho once in awhile.

Definitely want to know more about what update this is. I'm out of warranty Oct 12th so hoping we can figure this out soon I didn't want to do the previous update that kills our cars' fun.
Anything else you can provide would go a looonnngg way for a lot of us. |

That's true. This is what a PUMA case is. Basically the dealership sending out an SOS to a field engineer or BMWNA.

Does anyone know if the burbles are tune related, exhaust related, or both? If it's tube related, can an etune, like one from ptf, add the burbles?

SIB number is 12 15 14.. And this is what it says for the situation:
"A customer may complain that after coming to a stop, the engine speed intermittently fluctuates from about 500 RPM to 1,100 RPM. This situation can be more noticeable when the air conditioner is on." So, just take your car to the dealer and make that complaint. As long as you get a good tech that follows bulletins you should get the new software.
