The car feels much more predictable around corners, and in a straight line with the LSD. So happy I finally pulled the trigger. This is a must have mod for these cars.

Still waiting on my Hotchkiss swaybar endlinks to arrive from ECS Tuning before I do the rest of the suspension work. I can't wait to get all the new control arms in and have it aligned though. Should make a huge difference.

And as nice as the weather is here, there is so much traffic it is painfully hard to find a good road to really enjoy the car on..

Apex Photo Shoot

Really exciting thing happened over the weekend. I was lucky enough to have been chosen for a professional photoshoot for Apex Race Parts, to show off my wheels for advertising purposes.

Can't post all of the pictures yet, but here's a teaser!

Apex Photo Shoot

Here are the remainder of the photos from the shoot I did for Apex Wheels two weeks ago.

Really excited with how these turned out. Really makes me appreciate how far the car has come. Also makes me realize I need to get better at taking quality pictures myself. lol.

The car is running fantastic. On revision 11 from Steven at Wedge tuning. I believe we are now at the limit of the 92 octane fuel I can get out here. So should be done with tuning until I change fuels in the future. Car holds about 19psi to redline on stock direct injection and hpfp setup. The differential is working flawlessly, and despite some of my original concerns, makes ZERO noise. Even with the solid subframe bushings.

I have a dyno session scheduled for the 22nd of Feb. I plan on doing an oil change right before, and also swapping the coil packs for the new S55 Eldor branded coil packs, as well as a new set of NGK 97506 plugs, gapped to .020. I am not having any misfire issues, but figured I might as well put some fresh hardware in it to prevent any potential issues on the dyno.

Now for some pictures! Enjoy the island scenery.

Maaaannnn, those are some killer shots!

What's the response time been when it comes to getting another tune revision? Interested to see what you're putting down on the dyno later this month.

Right? I was blown away with how they turned out. I need to get my own photography skills onto this level.

The response time from Wedge has been phenomenal. Steven usually had a revision sent to me the same day I sent them logs. There was one revision where he literally replied within an hour with a new revision.

10/10 recommend.

Considering that tuning can make or break a build, and affects every aspect of driving, this is something I did not want to cheap out on or overlook. I am very impressed and happy with my experience.

I'm nervous and excited for the dyno. I'm hoping to see 450whp, but I'll be content with low 400's for now. Numbers aside, the car is an absolute rocket now.

Thanks for sharing your build. How do you like the turner rear upper shock mounts?

I like them! At first, they wouldn't fit since the BC coilovers have a larger strut rod than the factory struts. I ended up having to get the upper and lower strut sleeves milled out so that they would slide over the BC rods.

The way I have them installed, they raise the shock mount 7.5mm from the OEM location, increasing travel distance. This helps to prevent hitting the bump stop during hard cornering or bumps.

Other than that, I haven't noticed a change in NVH or handling. But I feel good knowing that I no longer have rubber mounts to wear out and tear. The rear suspension is now very predictable and linear feeling. No bounce or sway over bumps and uneven roads.

Thanks. That's why i didn't get them. I believe they are for a 10mm rod and my TCs are 12mm. Good to know the opening can be milled out and the part still works correctly.

Spec Clutch Install

As luck would have it, two days before I was supposed to get the car dyno'd, the factory clutch decided it was time to retire.

It did not fail completely, but it began to slip as soon as boost came on in 4th gear or higher..

I had been putting off installing the Spec Stage 3+ Clutch and Single Mass Steel Flywheel just to see how long the factory clutch would hold. (87k miles on it, 25K of which were FBO/tuned.)

I got off from work early on Friday, and set to work on the clutch swap. I did the whole job in about 8 hours, on my back, with the car on jack stands. I didn't run into many problems during install, but there were a few things that slowed me down.

Mainly, the top two bellhousing bolts were as annoying to remove as people have said.. I ended up removing them from the engine bay, as I did not have enough extensions to remove them from underneath the car.

Here's a picture of what that process looked like.. My knees are still angry with me. lol

Once everything was unbolted, I had a friend come over to help me lower the transmission to the ground. That thing is as heavy as it looks. If I have to do this job again, I will definitely buy a transmission jack..

Once the transmission was out, the OEM pressure plate, clutch disk, and flywheel all came out easily. It was clear upon removal, that the stock clutch had reached the end of its lifespan. There was barely any material left on the friction disk.

In the transmission, I installed a new stainless steel clutch pivot pin, a new throw-out bearing, and a new pivot arm retaining clip.

Utilzing a flywheel lock tool I got from ECS Tuning, I torqued the new flywheel and pressure plate down to spec.

Then it was just a matter of putting everything back the way I found it.

While in there, I also completed the following;
- Oil Change w/ Liqui Moly 5W40 & Mann Oil Filter
- Transmission Fluid Change w/ Redline D4 ATF
- Guibo replacement with OEM unit
- All new OEM aluminum bellhousing bolts

Here's the few pictures I snapped on my phone during the process.. I apologize in advance for not taking more!

My first impressions after putting about 100 miles on the setup, are that it definitely feels more aggressive than stock. Taking off in first gear, the new clutch is definitely more grabby, and less forgiving than the stock setup. Once rolling though, shifting into 2nd gear and higher is a breeze. The car grabs hard, and the pedal feel is very firm and reassuring. The car definitely revs quicker with the lightened flywheel.

Most importantly, the chatter introduced by the single mass flywheel is not near as bad as I was expecting. I think this is partly because I chose to go with the steel flywheel from SPEC, instead of the aluminum.. I also have my idle set to 750rpms through MHD.

That's all for now! I'm going to get 500 street miles put on the setup, and then reschedule my dyno session! Looking forward to finally seeing what she puts down!

Dyno Session & Cold Start Footage

Hey guys! Time for another update!

I finally got the car dynoed after breaking in the new Spec clutch and flywheel setup. The day before the dyno, I threw in some brand new Eldor Coil Packs, NGK 97506 plugs, and changed the oil with LiquiMoly Leichtlauf 5W40.

Steven at Wedge has been super helpful with getting my tune dialed in, and I finally felt we were at a good stopping point for this 92 octane tune. As dynoed, the car was making 17-18psi, with fairly conservative timing. My goal for this setup was to make a reliable 400whp, and to hold boost to redline without overly stressing any components. I feel we accomplished that!

Car made 399whp, and 431ftlbs.

I know the car has more power left in it, but I am going to wait until I get somewhere with a readily available E85 supply before I turn things up again. For now, I am just enjoying daily driving it! Snagged this picture on the side of this cool restaurant me and my wife like to have coffee at.

And here's a short cold start video I took the other day!

I just finished putting 1000 miles on the Quaife LSD, so I flushed the fluid per recommendation with some fresh Redline 75W90ns. This diff is an amazing upgrade! I love the slightly shorter gearing for low end acceleration. It makes stop-and-go traffic a simpler task as well.

I also pulled the trigger on two big interior upgrades I have been eyeing for a while.

- Nelson Racing Wheel Carbon Fiber/Alcantara Wheel
- Mashimarho Carbon Fiber Interior Trim Kit

Should receive these things within the next month or so. Will post updates when I get everything in!

Thanks for reading!

I agree, the results are good for pump gas. Excited to eventually get tuned for an ethanol blend though and make 450+. But the car feels great for the time being!

All logs are here. Check the latest V10.1 logs.

Thank you Petro! Feels good to have everything dialed in and working smoothly. Can't wait to get it onto the track and see how everything performs. I still have my 1M/M3 control arm kit I need to get around to installing too..

How're things with your 1 going? Tune dialed in yet? Or is weather still holding you back?

It is nice to have everything running smooth. Glad all is running well.
My 93oct tune is done and I have my base map for ethanol. We are starting at e30 make sure my stft are ok then go from there. Before I start that I need to do a few things. Vcg, rsfb, m3 arms, front swaybar, and put index 12's in. All are here but i haven't done anything yet. Except the maddad whisper(was dying to hear it) I also have PR coils but my coils have less than 5k miles so I'll wait on that. But overall the car is running great and is flying when I need it to . Thanks for asking

4-15-20

Finally received the front and rear Hotchkis Adjustable Swaybar End Links that I ordered in November from ECS Tuning.. Got them installed in just under an hour. No issues to report! Fitment was great.

Then took the 1er on a long cruise up the west shore of Oahu.

Zero issues to report. Car is an absolute blast and loves boost!

Still waiting on my custom carbon fiber/alcantara steering wheel from Nelson Racing Wheel, and carbon fiber interior trim from Mashimarho. After that stuff arrives, I'm going to start looking into roll cage/harnesses/seats.

Fuel-It LPFP -> HPFP Line

Finally got around to installing this Fuel-It 3/8" (AN6) E85 compatible upgraded fuel line!

Should help fuel flow to the High Pressure Fuel Pump, and keep things happy. Fit like a glove!

Who says racecars can't also be practical?

I love this car.

Hope you're all staying safe during this COVID craziness, and getting to spend some extra time with your families and 1ers.

Car looks great! For the wing, do you have any interior braces, and have you noticed any denting in the trunk from the force? Also how's the BC Coils for handling/comfort and did you do custom rates?
