nol1mit I've been doing this research and reading around the forums. bang for buck dunlop z1s are good.
Check this thread out: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=577165 Summarized hancook rs3 are really cheap and the fastest but they have low thread. So they won't last as long as others. The z1 is about $30 more expensive but has 50% more thread on it. If it makes any difference for you, these aren' the tires I ended up going with. I went with MPSS. (michelin performance super sport) Bit more expensive but from the reviews seem to be just a better tyre all round. |

If you're doing the search on TR you can query the tires and select the ones that best suit your driving needs. You can also check on them and compare them literally side by side.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...earDiameter=18 That is a search on stock sizes.

You should keep in mind that max performance tires like Michelin PSS or Hankook Ventus V12 will last much longer than extreme performance tires like Dunlop Direzza Star Specs or Hankook Ventus R-S3.

Thanks for all the info guys. Is handling any better with the non runflats ?
I talked to my service advisor and he gave me the normal BS about how changing the stock tires will effect my handling

Dump the run-flats! You might find the following survey useful:

I went with Continental Extreme DW's in stock sizes and LOVE them. Handling and feel is a gazillion times better than having four rolling concrete slabs on each end of your car. You will not be dissapointed when you make the switch.

Doesn't the size of tires that come on the 128 and the 135 limit the tires that are available.. And of those tires, most are high performance tires. So if you stick with a top brand, for DD would you even notice?
I look at test results like this and wonder if I could tell the difference between....7.51 7.45 7.67 7.42. Just my thoughts. |

My Pirelli runflats will hold me till winter, when I put the car in storage for three months.
Come Spring, 2012, I will be buying new tires. The Conti DW's are at the top of my list. I drive "quickly" when the road is right, no track days. It is amazing that BMW doesn't listen to the people who buy their cars. It's like, great car--crappy tires. Where the rubber meets the road--that's what it is all about. |
