Nice car! It would be a great BaT candidate. You should do well, given you are centrally-located.

Can we get a better picture of that steering wheel trim? I searched in RealOEM, couldn't find anything that looks like that.

Edit* Reading through some old posts, I guess it's the 345 Chromeline Interior.

This is very intriguing! The window sticker says that is a 135is, but vin decoder says other wise, and no IS tag on the trunk. Still, very cool and very rare- BAT is a good option. Good luck!

As others have noted, the window sticker reads 'PRE PRODUCTION', which jives with the odd label of 'is' and when you run the VIN, it has a code called '991 - Pre Series Management'. The first owner of the car was actually BMW of North America; so I believe this car to be a pre-production car that was sold to the guy who owned the car before I did (shout out to Scott, if you're reading this).

I compared my VIN to the VIN of all other Lifestyle edition cars - it's the only one with Active Steering.

I love the brown leather with white stitching.

$32k sounds like a fair price for it. I would say a non-Lifestyle Edition car like this would be around $25k.

The problem is that no one has ever heard of Lifestyle Edition

Style 496!

Re: rareness; I see the little known rarity as a big benefit to the right buyer.

It is objectively more rare. I also think it's cool how it came from the factory this way, rather than the 'is' which is a 'added at the port' package.

I figured it'd be good to provide some tidbits on "What is a 'Lifestyle Edition'?"

For the final year of E82/88 production, BMW introduced the 'Lifestyle Edition' (LE) as a luxury oriented send-off for the 1 series. Offered internationally in both coupe and convertible, owners could get the special edition for their 128i or 135i. Unique features of Lifestyle edition included:

Exterior:
- Mineral White Metallic paint (you could also opt for Black or Gray)
- White painted kidney grill bars, with chrome fronts
- Satin Chrome window trim
- Style 496 wheels
Interior:
- Door sills which read 'BMW Limited Edition'
- 'Fineline Stream' wood trim
- Tobacco Brown Boston Leather seats with contrast white stitching
- Steering wheel wrapped in Tobacco Brown Boston Leather with
contrasting white stitching

To my knowledge, all Lifestyle edition models were equipped with the M-Sport suspension.

Does the Satin Chrome Window trim go along with the chrome interior accents (particularly on the steering wheel), and maybe the kidneys are part of this too to make up the "Chrome line" trim option?

That is a good question! I’m not too sure; the BMW press release linked below states:

“ Whichever shade customers opt for, the BMW kidney grille will greet them with white decorative trim and white kidney grille bars with chromed fronts. This elegant appearance is underlined by Chrome Line window recess finishers and side window surrounds.”

The wording would seem to indicate that the grilles are not part of the package, but the window sticker also led me to believe that Active Steering was an option (I have come to believe that it wasn’t). What have you seen on other models?

Interesting. I would love to see the convertible with the brown top with the metallic accents they mention. Overall, I think the Lifestyle is a very unique model, and since not many people know about them, there's a possibility they could be collector cars mostly just sitting around somewhere waiting for the right time.

Saw the convertible here in Sarasota a few weeks back. Was a good looking car in white with the oyster interior and brown top. The owner did not know what he bought (he had only had it several weeks) but was learning.

Wait, I thought all Lifestyle editions had the Tobacco Brown interior though?

Agreed! I was not aware that they offered anything but Tobacco Brown. From my VIN analysis, that's atleast true for the Coupes. Would definitely be unexpected if a convertible was in Oyster.

Wow, what a neat spec - I hadn't even heard of the Limited Editions until today. I sold my N55/DCT Marrakesh Brown 135i a few years ago and it's one of the top most regretful BMW sales I've made (along with my 2000 M Coupe!). Custom ordered a new 2021 MINI JCW Hardtop last year, but just sold that off as it wasn't the experience I was hoping for. Been poking around for another BMW to pamper and take to our club meets; this one checks a lot of boxes. I have an uncle in Denver who's going to sell me his LeMans/Coral (Superman) 2011 135i 6 speed down the road which is also a unique spec, but man I'm really intrigued by this Mineral White Lifestyle Edition. Nothing wrong with having both blue and white BMWs in the garage is there?
