BMW E82 120D Engine Light

Hey guys,

I was driving with my friends last night and we were having some fun in a car park, my friend had a go in my car and was driving it how I would drive it, nothing off. I’m not sure if I had it before or after but I guess I noticed the engine light once I got back in. Anyways I’m sure my friend wasn’t the reason it’s came on as he didn’t do anything I could see wrong. I’m driving and it’s completely fine no loss of power and drives excellent. I did the BC check with the stick and it said Check Okay so I assume everything is okay. However normally when you get an issue, on start up it should ding and then bring up the problem but with the engine light it doesn’t ding on start and just stays light. I took a look under my bonnet, no smells no leaks, but I did notice a little high pitched noise which sounds like a weird whine as if a fizzy drink was leaking through a plastic bottle.
I haven’t checked during the day and I will in the morning but defo would like some advice. Was thinking of buying an OBD reader and seeing all the codes myself etc.
