1M, VSRF catless downpipes= zero difference..except

The drone is HORRIBLE. Car has some type of aftermarket mid pipe. Like, I am afraid of getting pulled over where ever I go now. To add insult to injury, I don't feel any power gains from the butt dyno. Is this normal on the 1M?

The lack of butt dyno feeling may be due to the fact that the 1m already has highflow catted dps, but with the extreme drone I'm leaning more towards an improper install. I'd have a shop (if you're not comfortable) look over the work done and confirm a proper install.

Just went for another drive. Drone is around 2k rpm. Butt dyno feels like upper rpm hp picked up a bit. I am a technician, so I know what I am doing for the most part. I'll throw it back on the lift tomorrow and see if anything is touching, but I doubt it. Some Google ing leads me to believe this is a common problem.

You won't necessarily feel any gains without adding a proper tune to that mix. Installing DP's just opens up the exhaust so the engine can breathe better. At best, it should help with spooling up the turbo's quicker.

Since you stated the car has aftermarket downpipes, they are most likely non-resonated and that's why you are getting so much rasp. Some people like that kind of loudness, for you that's not the case. Thus I'd recommend getting a set of mid-pipes that have resonators built into them. I like my Berk Resonated Midpipes.

I don't think you need an fmic to go to stage 2, it's only required for stage 2+.

Stage 1 = Stock
Stage 1+ = FMIC
Stage 2 = Downpipes
Stage 2+ = Downpipes + FMIC

Correct.
If you have a drone, it is probably a bad install / fitment which could also explain the lack in power

Well, everything is fine. Nothing touching. Drone is coming from the axle back. 1800 to 2500 rpm, just as boost starts to build. I think the stock muffler is restricted , and that momentary back pressure is the culprit.

Figure out what midpipe you have and sell it. I have the VRSF catless downpipes and they sound very mild while cruising and an awesome roar under WOT with my maddad resonated mids.

Either you're really sensitive to drone, or something isn't quite right.

From my experience, the dps give the n54 car a really nice exhaust note, but when I deleted secondaries it was awfull....the same done ur referring to at about 2k, I got that also. n54 powered vehicles have a more restricted exhaust, I would check to see it you have those secondaries in place, if not you need resonators.

I have an n54 with catless downpipes, catless mids, standard resonator and back box (plus everything in my sig).
I got the mids done first with a map; no drone. Next were the catless downpipes and it does rasp between 2K- 2.3K. I already had IC etc at that stage and got another map to make the most of the downpipes. It made a big difference in torque and was noticeable on the road.
I can live with the rasp as the gains are worth it. I just try and stay above 2.5k when changing gear!

I think I am going to try the Dinan axle back. From what it says on thier website, thier exhaust specificly deals with this issue. Waiting on my cobb to be refurbished to change the tune also. My experience is the exact same as the above post. Other than the rasp, it sounds much better, and after some upper rpm fun, I can definitely tell there is more hp.

Wouldn't the catless N55 midpipe help more then a catless Downpipe on the 1M?
I don't know much about them, but sorry OP it sounds like it's not installed properly.

I heard more 1M owners a switching to N54 mid pipes to help control the drone. I remember reading a thread where someone cut open their stock resonator and found it was just a y-pipe. I'm sure it would help if you upgrade to a aftermarket axle back.

n54 vrsf dp on 1m

Sorry to revive this, but can anyone confirm that the VRSF n54 decatted dp will work on a 1M? Iv asked ebay merchants, they say no, and VRSF webpage doesnt mention 1m on their list of fitments. But i found this thread. Any help?

https://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-3-stai...-bmw-135i.html

If im finding the wrong one, can you point me on the right direction?
