DCT Paddle Swap (Not Automatic/Steptronic)

I am posting this thread to see if anyone has had any success changing paddles to an aluminun, m3, or m6 paddle. I want a more aggressive looking paddle but I have searched and searched and nobody has accomplished it. When I search it pulls up steptronic paddle swaps with m3's. I do remember reading one guy who had done it but it was quite some time ago and can not find it. Please let me know what you guys know/find. Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for a paddle swap for the DCT Transmission NOT automatic/steptronic.

If you already have the steptronic paddles it is fairly straight forward. I retrofitted the M3 paddles to my car (I did not have any paddles) following this guide: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600729

For replacing the steptronic paddles with the M3 paddles you would:
  1. Disconnect the battery
  2. Disconnect/remove the steering wheel airbag
  3. Remove the steptronic paddles
  4. Install (screw in) the M3 paddles
  5. Wire up the M3 paddles according the diagram under "Installation Part 1 - Paddles to MFB" in this guide: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600729
  6. Connect/replace the steering wheel airbag
  7. Reconnect the battery

DCT paddle swap (not automatic/step tropic)
That DIY looks to be for a steptronic transmission not DCT, correct me if I am wrong.

Ah, apologies, misread your post -- AFAIK the switches are not compatible with DCT.

So, You can't upgrade the DCT paddles to an extended billet style paddle shift?
Sue.

If someone made some you could. The ones for an e92 m3 have different resistors or something along those lines that make them not functional for the 135i DCT and z4 DCT

How disappointing, I was looking at some extended billet ones. I have smallish hands and it is more difficult for me in spirited driving.

Ya, the market must not be large enough for them. You would think they would be seeing that the 335is, z4, and 135 all can have the DCT. I read somewhere that someone retrofitted some to his car but it required doing a little work with the internals of the paddles. I am not sure exactly what he did and am unable to find the thread.
I would love some like this---> http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8049/8...156ee35e_b.jpg

Yup, they are the ones, except I want black with no holes and blue markings. Oh well maybe some day.
We have an E93 M3, that we were going to upgrade the shifters and put the M3 ones in the 135i. It seems that doesn't work either.

Some guy did it in Switzerland. He's on the 1addicts page on Facebook and he found the correct resistors. Let me try to find him again.

That would be awesome if you could get me in touch with him. I don't have a Facebook but maybe I should make one so that I can get in touch with him

All you want to do is change the physical paddle but not the mechanism am I correct?

If so, I think there's a video on how to do this on YouTube. Unless of course, it's ONLY for the M3 DCT paddles.

If I read correctly, you simply want paddles that are easier to access (i.e., closer to your fingers as you grip the wheel)?

If so, try here

Got a hold of him, and he basically said you need to change out the resistors. He gave me the specs on what you need but if you get M3 paddles you can desolder the resistors out of your (135i) paddles then solder them into place of the M3s resistors.

I just picked up the resistors now I am trying to find some M3 paddles to use.

Please take a lot of pictures and a good DIY, I am now looking for some resistors as we speak.

Can you please tell us where you got the resistors from and which ones to buy?

In theory all you would need to do is disassemble your stock paddles, and replace the actual paddle with the new one. I would assume some adjustments would be needed for it to work correctly but this may be the most simple route rather than rewiring.

Yes you could easily just de-solder your resistors and plug them into the M3's. But the specs for the resistors are as follows;

1.18K
4.99k
6.2K
348E

There will be different sizes, you will need 1206. I will try to upload pics later on how it goes.

This is all thanks to Christian in Switzerland, I wish I had his Screen name but I don't.
