Turbo inlet pipes

Hi all, I am looking at mods to further prolong longevity
of engine.
Regarding the turbo inlets , I have not been able to find much
on this- most threads are on the chargepipes, intakes and so pls
forgive me if my question sounds poorly researched.

I currently have Wagner evo 1 IC, gruppeM intake, stock turbos..
Question is would upgrading the stock turbo intake pipes
help with turbo longevity and maybe even turbo spool , throttle response ?

Would there be any downsides like checklights , louder engine noise , issues
with emissions , need to tune ? I have Akra mids and catback and car is
already pretty loud on morning startups - have no wish to upset the neighbors more !

Thanks in advance !

It'll help with throttle response, more noticeable if your tune is aggressive. Probably helps with longevity since the turbos don't have to work as hard.

Not sure if there will be much change in sound since you have the sealed GruppeM intake, but my relocated inlets produced a bit more induction noise; No change in startup volume.

No CEL or emissions issues, only downside is that the stock rear inlet must be cut to remove it. There simply isn't enough room to pull it out in one piece without dropping the engine or removing the trans.

Are you still on stock DPs and tune?

Thanks for sharing your experience Snertz,
Yes I’m on stock DP, dinan stage 2.
Geez.... cutting the stock rear inlet doesn’t sound at all easy. I was hoping install would be
like the charge pipe !

Yep it's a bit involved to get it out, I found it easier to remove the downpipes and cut from the bottom. The cut is at the 90 degree turn before the turbo, I used a small hacksaw blade holder to do it but an oscillating multitool would make things a snap.

I've also see DIY's mentioning removing the intake manifold to get it out but I'm not sure how well that method works.

A good DIY is here: https://bit.ly/2VK6aWM

You need a retune to account for the larger/less restrictive inlets.

Hi gmx, I’m currently on dinan s2 tune.
I should re install the tune you mean ?
I was hoping the dinan would be able to self adjust settings after driving for a while !

Hey guys, so i got the turbo inlets installed into the 1M 2 weeks back.
1.75” MMP.

I have a picture attached. Taken from the Drivers side.
Ran into issues with the radiator hose ( part number 17127540127) being compressed slightly by the Turbo Inlet pipe ( tip) , which sits above the charge pipe (cp).

Would really prefer that the radiator hose does not get compressed - unsure about effects of heat on that area and the stress to the joint just distal to the hose.

How did those of you who installed the inlet pipes solve this ? Or am i just unduly worried ?

Thanks in advance !

So it’s been a few years and i thought I’d just update on this topic. I have a RHD 1M and recently replaced my old turbos. I discovered the MMP turbo inlet pipe was torn and was directly in contact with the gearbox - I might’ve finally solved the issue of the intermittent rattle when gears engaged.

Have come to the sad conclusion that the inlet pipe upgrades are easier for LHD cars and have decided to swap back to stock. Also don’t really notice any difference in torque and acceleration - maybe sound is a little lesser but nothing too great.
