if you turn like a pensioner, yes inner tire wear will increase, but if you ever hit onramps with moderate force, it will be more even. most spirited drivers develop more outer tire wear because there isnt enough negative camber in the first place.

Only if VERY aggressive camber settings (i.e. aftermarket camber plates, control arms completely maxed out) are used. Toe is what kills tires on most if not all street cars. To put it in perspective, with the camber pin removed on stock front suspension, you are going to get maybe -1* of front camber. In order to have true camber wear on the tires, you would need -3* or more. Also, any sort of aggressive driving will ride the outside edges of the tire, so some amount of negative camber is actually beneficial for tire wear. I can personally attest to running -2.5* front camber w/ 1/8th" total toe out on my previous car for daily driving/autoX/track days, and I always had excellent tire wear.

Thanks for this thread!!! just did it...I had the latter version that had to be drilled out - very easy soft aluminum! literally 10 minutes for the whole job.
once it was drilled out: after I jacked up the car, loosened the 3 nuts, and pushed the strut towards the center of the car: I gained a bit more on the passenger side...but about ~1/4" movement. going for an alignment today. considering if I should slot the holes a bit more to get more camber. |

I did the mod on my E90 (2009 model). The pin was drilled out with a 6.5mm drill bit. After a bit of drilling, the pins detached themselves and came off cleanly.

Just came across this thread and I have a question (probably pretty dumb) but I have coilovers with camber plates already on them, and I will be adding more camber soon. Can I remove this pin and gain more camber along with the adjustments allowed by the camber plates?

The pin was simply there for initial installation of the suspension at factory. Camber plates do not have a pin slot. |

I didn't think so, and I don't believe they are. My camber is set at around -0.9* at the moment so I doubt they're maxed

My car is a 6/2013 build. Last night I gave the pins a few good whacks with a 2-3 pound hammer via a 3" long 1/2" extension. Nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?

After removing the pin and taking the three bolts off, I can not get the strut to move at all. Everything I do to shove it over won't work? I don't want to get real violent with it and damage something.
Is there spring pressure pushing the strut up against the top hat preventing it from moving easily? Its doesn't seem like this has been an issue for anyone here?

If you only jack up one side of the car, the sway bar is fully compressed. The solution is to put the front of the car on jack stands so both wheels are unloaded. The rubber bushings on the arms will still provide some upward force, but not too much. Its better Not to take the front wheels off the car because the weight of them is a help balancing the forces. Also there's no need to remove the 3 nuts on the strut hat completely.

After coming across this DIY, I took a look at my alignment pins. The passenger side pin is punched/sheared off but the drivers side is still intact. I bought my car used about 2 years ago and have had an alignment done in the past. Any reason only one would be punched and not the other? Adjustment only was needed on that side?

I got an alignment done after installed M3 controls and they only punched one side out as well. I was told its just how it is and it is fine. It makes sense since during assembly every car can't be exactly the same.

Is there any reason that only one of the two alignment pins would be removed? My car has a pull to the right (the side with the missing pin) but all alignment specs are good. Just trying to track the issue down.
