He also did full paint protection for me. Looks awesome. Front bumper, Full hood, full fenders, a pillars, front 1/4 of roof, mirrors, rockers, rear fender impact area, door handle recess, luggage area.
How is the coverage over the dot matrix and in the corners?

Any issue with the glass being scratched or the rubber trim being sliced?

There are a few guys interested so maybe we can work something out with the shop owner.
Thx for taking the lead, A-. I'm def in, picking up the car in 4 days so hoping we hear back from the shop and I can get her done right away.

v1k0d3n: is the shop open on Sat? FWIW, I may opt for a slightly lighter shade than yours, in my state front tints are not allowed, never stopped me from doing it, but just don't want it to be very obvious. And question #2: how long should I not take windows down, have a long 700 mile drive with likely a lot of tolls, etc., just don't want to make a booboo accidentally after hours of driving

No scratches at all. Looks good. Extends over the dot matrix to the black border.

Is this on a 1'er? I guess Huper is out for me then. Mine is fully loaded and I'm really not going to be happy if CA does not work with the tint.

Does anyone know of the 3M does a better job letting the signal through? I might go with a really light tint if the brownish tinge is very visible.

See my post here, I spoke to the shop and got some clarity:

Ive always heard ceramic films caused problems with the CA. If I recall correctly numerous 135 owners had that issue.

I did read that. Thanks for doing the legwork for us lazy bums!

Since there still seems to be some concern around CA issues, I may hold off on the tint till spring and go with a local installer in ATL.

I'm still doing the clear bra at Steve's.

I pretty sure it's metallic film that causes interference, and not ceramic. Kinda makes sense too, right? Neither the Huper or the 3M should cause you any interference.

I have a feeling that people think they're getting ceramic, when they really aren't. Unfortunately the tint/PPF is a very shady business. You really need to verify the product, the warranty and certifications of the staff on hand (which directly impact warranty).

The film was professionally applied and the shop I worked with has done numerous BMWs in my area. I got a lifetime warranty card and the tint on my car appears just as the sample I was given, so I'm fairly certain that I've got the Huper Optik tint. Nonetheless, there were immediate problems with CA. I'm no RF engineer, so I can't tell you why there is interference, but there IS significantly degraded performance of CA.

My lease expires shortly so I'm not going to take the tint off, but if I had the car long term I would definitely get the tint removed.

My new 1M has no issues with CA and I'm not going to do any tint. BMW recommends against tint for a reason. Be warned. I would certainly not do it again.

Man, that's strange. I've had no issues at all since I've had mine installed. Sucks that you're having that problem.

So you have CA, and Huper Optik tint, correct? And no problems with CA since the tint install?

I wasnt doubting that it worked, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page on what CA is.

I have no first hand experience with ceramic tints and CA. I opted not to do the ceramic tint when there was talk on the 135 forum that it was interfering with peoples CA. I confirmed with a few tint guys and just didnt do it.

I have the 3M crystalline all around including windshield and no problem with CA. Grab the handle... Door unlocks and opens.

Since the video did not include the CA fob in your pocket, I will continue to doubt this. I wanna see the fob and hand in action in the same video!

Ive been doing some reading and it seems some people have issues with their new tint (especially when rolling down their windows the first time). This makes me want to have it done locally so I can go back to the installer. Being 2500+ miles away from the Carolinas I think I will have to pass on tint install at PCD.

I would think most people would opt to pay a little more and have it done locally as well. My biggest thing was using someone reputable.

Exactly my line of thinking! I put a premium on a reputable place hence why I was considering the PCD install option, but given all the logistics behind it being out of state and all, I'll have to look at something locally.
