There were only 4 1ers out tonight anyway, we will probably have a bigger turnout when it gets warmer.

And Mark, what was the percentage of your tints? I'm most probably going to audio heaven this week to get tints done, and I like yours

17% brother, but be careful, since you have a black car it'll most likely look too dark for some police..

Yes, yes it was..
35% is legal just to let you guys know and yes Big1 is right it looks darker on a black car.. especially if you have a black interior also.. the back and rear windows can be as dark as you want tho.

From what my brother in law tells me (OPP) they don't hesitate to pull people over based on the tint. They take it pretty serious.

Fist thing he does is ask them to take out their license and put it up against the window, and if they can't read it, the tint is too dark.

Just be careful.

And yes, it does help when you have a light interior, it hides how dark it is quite well.

Dude my luck with the OPP is pretty bad.. for me I got pulled over a few years ago for speeding in my 1er (it was after basketball and I really wanted to go home).. first thing he said is "do you like to play games".. my answer was no.. and he said "well you were driving like you were in one".. damn that was a head shot.. He said if I was going 5 km/h more he would get my car towed lol....mind you I was stopped right at the express section of Kennedy lol... horrible experience.. I vow not to go over 130 now.

Most people say 35% is legal, but in actuality, the law doesn't specify a percentage. It all depends on the cop. He could be having a really bad day and book you for a small infraction, then decide to drop a "your tints is too dark" kind of thing. Seen it before. 1LazyBmw is correct. You can paint your rear windshield and rear windows black, but it's the fronts that matter. I believe, as long as the cop can see the the driver and passenger, you're in the clear. It's for the safety of the cop. If he can't see the driver or passenger, they just might be pulling out a weapon or something, and it's nights out for the law enforcer.

You also have to take into consideration the size of windows. The bigger the window, the lighter the tint seems, and vice versa. So for our small 1 series, 20% will seem darker than 20% on a 3 series sedan.

35% is safe, 20 % is doable, anything less is just pushing it and asking for trouble. I've had a Mazda mx6 tinted 7% (basically the windows were painted black), never been pulled over, but will never go as dark again.

That's fast ...

Reminds me of when I was 19 before the impound laws...

this also reminds me, I need to get you to recode my passenger seat... I figured out that it was the drivers seat that we coded and not the passenger by accident

^this

If you actually refer to the Ontario HTA it does not state a firm tint percentage, but rather requires that the driver be visible from the front driver's and passenger side windows at all times. "Visibility" then becomes a matter of opinion. See HTA sections 73 & 74 on "Equipment obstructing view"

My DD is an 03 Accord with 20% tints all around, which I think suits the VIP style I was going for but frankly, I find it inconvenient sometimes. Particularly, when driving at night in a poorly lit area's I'm unfamiliar with. Once my 1 arrives, I intend on getting only a 40% ceramic tint.

When pulled over, I've gotten into the habit of immediately turning on the interior lights to diffuse the officer's tension over approaching a blacked out vehicle.

+1 on painting your back windows haha. And yea when i tend to press on the gas more than i usually would and i look down at my speedo im usually driving pretty fast and i dont even realize it. these things tend to accelerate pretty quick especially if ur pushing it in third
