Production Number to Production Date Delay
A week ago Sunday we ordered a 2013 128i convertible. Last Thursday we received the Production Number but as of a few minutes ago there is "... no confirmed production date yet."
Obviously we are impatient. How long does it typically take from the assignment of a Production Number to the scheduling of a Production Date? |

I have factory ordered 3 BMW's and all were assigned production numbers within 2 days. All were in production within 2 weeks. The longest wait for delivery was 8 weeks, the shortest ( my current 135i) was 6 weeks. The biggest time hang-up can occur at the shipping port in Germany waiting for a ship.

Thanks Qunadry.
We ordered car a week ago yesterday (Sunday) and Dealer supposedly placed order with BMW last (Monday). Just getting impatient because I have little or no trust in Dealership as they did not give is the Production Number until Thursday. |

I had to beg my dealer to give my production number, they kept resisting telling that the tracking system is not reliable and only creates unnecessary anxiety (which I kind of confirm). When mine was ordered (in june 2010), I had the production number about one week later (after begging), I saw afterwards that car had been produced after 1 week (the tracking system took more time to be updated) and the car was on a ship 2 weeks after my order and delivered in Chicago 5 weeks after the order (way sooner than I expected). My brother in Belgium had to wait about 4 months to get his new 116d delivered, something to love about being a US consumer

You can log in to BMWUSA.com and set up an account. With the production number you can get updates on the progress-not perfect but it will give you a sense of theslow progress. You can also get the dealer to tell you the code status during this process. My dealer sent me the screen shots of the information. The forum has the full list of all production codes and corresponding status. The dealer can also tell you the production week slotted. What they fail to tell you when you order is exactly what the car status is in the dealer allocation-they do know within a few week window when it will be built. Once production starts get the VIN from your dealer. That will serve you to get the delivery time from shipping to your dealer. Sadly it is a long process and yes it can be as long as noted above. With the VIN you can track the boat.....

Ordered mine about two weeks ago, production number about a week after that, and began production this Monday with an end estimate of 11/2. No delays, just normal timing (I think) for 1ers which don't get nearly as many slots in line as, say, 3ers.

I ordered my 128i on 05/15/10, arrived at the dealer on 07/13/10 (forget the date production started). Ordered my 1M 10/08/11, production started 10/26/11, arrived at dealer 12/01/11. In both cases I received a production number only a few days later but as you can see production starts a few weeks later and you can generally count on about 7 to 8 weeks from order to pick up. The production number is just giving your car a place in the queue.
My girlfriend and sister got their F25 X3s in 5 and 4 weeks respectively but that was when they just started making that new model and those are produced in South Carolina so there is a lot less travel time from factory to the dealer where we live. |

My car was finished and is now either waiting for a boat or waiting to be taken to the port in Germany.

I ordered my 135is on 10/27/2012, and the CA gave me the production number that day, as well as a build sheet printout. The actual order did not go out until 10/29 or 10/30, since I went in on a Saturday. I requested the Performance Center Delivery, and I got a call on Friday (11/02/2012) saying that the anticipated delivery date to Spartanburg was looking to be 01/07/2012 if that worked for me. So about eight to nine weeks seems to be the time frame.

135is DSB black leather/blue stitch 6MT
I placed my order (135is DSB manual trans) at the dealer on January 10th, got a vehicle inquiry report with no production number and status code 047. Production number was assigned on January 16th, hotline said "scheduled for production with no confirmed production date yet". Vehicle went into production status on January 28th and was completed February 4th.
The original estimate I got from the dealer was for an early May delivery (about 17 weeks from ordering), today's email said they were able to advance production by about 3 weeks. Hoping that I may see it sooner than that, just have to keep checking the hotline. I'm just happy that it appears I will in fact get my car, there was another thread where someone had been told that 135is production had already ended for the 2013 MY. Feb 19 update: in transit, should arrive in Brunswick March 11 My timeline so far: Placed order at dealership (status 047): 1/10 Received production number (status 112): 1/16 Vehicle in production: 1/28 Transport to port of exit: 2/7 At port of exit: 2/9 In transit: 2/19 The BMW website was stuck at "Order Documented" when tracking by my production number, but when I added another car using the partial VIN instead, it updated to the current status with the correct colors/options.
