Options for buying BBK kits locally?
Hi everyone, just wondering if someone could put me in the direction of some local suppliers for Big Brake Kits? The Stoptech ST60 looks like a good option, interested to see whether it's worth purchasing OS or if I can get a competitive price locally.
To expand on this, are most people on this site generally purchasing aftermarket parts from OS websites or is there good local alternatives? Car is a 135i for reference Cheers Last edited by NinjaDog; 02-22-2018 at 09:00 PM.. |

what size wheels are you running on your 135i? I have a customer with a 135i who competitively races his 1'er at Wakefield Park and Eastern Creek on a regular basis and runs a Nashin 380mm Front, 345mm Rear combo (this kit requires 19's) with excellent results. This guy is a seriously quick driver with around 380rwkW on tap and if he needed a better braking solution he would have long ago replaced the Nashin's with the likes of Brembo or Alcon as he has the cash to do so. The Nashin Sport-Gold pads he runs at the track are also street friendly and offer a good service life, there are more street orientated pads available too. Feel free to PM me or text me on 0421 641 381 if you would like more details on the Nashin BBK. Cheers, Justin. www.jdtuningonline.com |

I personally wouldn't run a caliper without dust boots on the street when there are other well performing options available that do have dust boots. |

One of the guys in Melbourne failed RWC with the Nashin brakes (bought the car and had to get it roadworthy). No dust boots so had to source some stock calipers.
My other main concerns would be finding new disc rings and limited pad selection, if the company were not around. If they used the same pad profile as a brembo or stoptech that would be a great selling point.

The original N Series "monobloc" calipers did not have dust boots but that design oversight was changed a few years back if I recall correctly. |

I run the Nashins in 18in wheels with 465rwkw and more.
They do a marvellous job of hauling my 135 up from warp speed with no mercy shown. Great bang for buck. Has dust boots and passes its RWC (pink slip up here) every year.

Removing the restrictions out of the ST, inlet and exhaust right now to release some of the turbo potential. Then the Nizpro box, what to tune it with and fuelling. Car is never finished, right. :-)

Hi all. Brakes Direct have quoted the following for $3250
• Pair of Alcon CAR97 6 piston Monobloc Calipers • Pair of 355x32mm 2 piece floating Forza Rotors • Set of Forza FR6 pads • Brake Lines • All bolts, brackets etc required for install Thoughts? Not sure what the difference in caliper is between what K-Bag went with but the kit is almost $1000 cheaper. also don't know much about Forza rotors and pads but Brakes Direct sounded confident they were the way to go. This is stacking up in value as I'm already around the $2k mark for rebuild kit + rotors etc. |

My caliper is slightly lighter, has a removable bridge and is more motorsport orientated.
I also have the Alcon Rotors, rather than the Forza. There is nothing wrong with the kit they suggest, I would have bought it but it was hopelessly out of stock when I got mine. And given how little track time Ive seen it was probably a waste of the extra $1000. I also wanted the Forza pads, but again was out of stock. Apparently they're really good. Just make sure they are semi-floating rotors, full floating will rattle when you drive and annoy the shit out of you. Otherwise you will be happy with Alcon, they're good. |

Used F30 brakes are hard to source locally and are usually expensive considering what recyclers buy for damaged cars. Have a look on US eBay; a quick search for F30 335i calipers just revealed a front and rear set for $us175 +100 freight. They may not be the big ones and the photos do not appear to show whether the mounts (caliper to spindle) are attached. The backs are not likely to be of any use due to the odd offset on the 135i mount/rotor but the price is right. I assume you know that the F30 setup uses 14mm wheel bolts instead of the traditional 12mm.
