Removing stain left over from sticker on trunk

I purchased a 1M where the previous owner must have had a sticker placed on the trunk just to the right of the license plate. It appears to have etched the paint (almost like bird crap sometimes does). Does anyone know of any DIY way to do this? I have a shop that can take it out but I'm trying to do it myself. Thanks.

You can most likely get it out with with some cut cleaner and a good polish

I think my problem is that I don't have a buffer...

I would take it to a reputable collision center and have them look at the area you need fixed. They should be able to tell you if it requires machine cutting and polishing or if it can be addressed by hand polishing. It's also possible that what you're seeing in not on the surface (clear coat layer) and would need actual paint repair. This is why I recommend a collision center.

Do you have a good pic you can post?

You don't need a buffer. Just get a buffing pad from Autozone, and scratch remover and polish like stated above. This should be no more than $20.

Do you have a picture of the damage?

I tried using Meguairs Ultimate Compound but applying it with a wax pad and buffing out with a microfiber towel didn't do anything. I took it to a body shop who buffed on it and said they couldnt fix it - but when I looked closely upon getting home, it appears they got 90% of it out! It's very hard to see in certain angles, and almost impossible in sunlight (car is black, and being next to the license plate makes the angle odd).

Car is back in storage now but it literally looks like a bird crap stain that is etched in the paint.

For good measure, I'm going to buy some scratch remover/polish and some new buffing pads and see if I can get out the last bit.

You need something more aggressive to cut through the clear coat. Get a meguiars cut cleaner
