I wonder when we will start to see LS V8's transplanted into our 1er's.

I think later on they turned production over to the Germans in the actual Aston production plant but I don't know what year.

The sounds of that LS7 are not flattering. They're kind of ugly to me. That's just totally personal though. It does bring back the sounds of the older chevrolet muscle car though.
I'm more of a refined engine sound person. Growl is cool... but smooth and mean is cooler.

They are glorious, glorious cars. Sill looking for my perfect V8 Vantage Roadster. Meteorite silver, black leather with white stiching, grey brake calipers, sport package, manual shifter. The sounds they make are unbelievable. Guess that would make my 1er my winter beater, LOL!

LOL, no shit. It is a lot of power for the weight of the engine, and everyone makes swap kits to do it. Friend of mine is thinking of building an LS swap Boxster. Weighs almost the same as the stock engine, with a SLIGHT bump in power.

The interesting LS swap to me is in a Miata. Google "Flying Miata" to get details. All the mechanicals, engine, transmission, and rear end can be replaced resulting in what would seem like a solid vehicle with the potential for huge power. But it is still a Miata - very little trunk space so it's hard to use for even a brief trip. Should be fun around town. Weight to power can be the same as a Viper.
Convertibles are about 250 lbs heavier and at least in 2009 the automatic is almost 0.5 slower 0-60 than the 6 speed. I like the idea of the DISA intake but I don't really feel my 128i is underpowered. I don't race other than an occasional autocross and that is more handling than power. I wanted something with enough power to be fun and I got that.

LS engines historically have had significantly better MPG than their competition(ie 30mpg+ highway for the C6 Vette vs 18mpg for the E9x M3), and are no slouch on emissions. The new LT platform with the active cylinder deactivation takes that MPG to another level. Whatever people like to invent in their minds about that family of engines, GM is currently on the cutting edge of delivering a proper N/A engined packaged for the current climate of MPG regulation/strangulation, instead of resorting to some miserable turbo 4.

Unless the stock engine in any car is 450lbs-500lb and transmission to 130lb, the LS engine isn't weighing "just a little bit more" than any current 4/6cyl engine.

Ls for the win! If I could throw one in my 1er I would in a heart beat. We swap a ls1 in my buddy's e30 m3 this passed summer. It runs and sounds awesome! And I have a friend that has a ls1 in his drift 240sx and a buddy that boosted his ls engine in his truck running 10s all day reliable for the passed 2 years

Depending on spec, the LS engine weighs between 400(LS1)-470lbs(LS7).

The weird part is that I'm largely against LS swaps, but I hate when people underestimate/make uninformed comments about that powerplant.

A LS3 is 415lbs add another 50lbs for the clutch and flywheel and then 130lbs for the T56. An LS1/6 is 450lbs LS7 is around 440lbs The KA24DE isn't even 400lbs - with transmission maybe, but definitely not without one. Actually, I think they are almost 48xlbs with transmission. |
